Nubia is an independent brand created by ZTE to produce luxury smartphones. In 2008, the Chinese company ZTE becomes famous for the production of cheap gadgets for mobile operators. And in 2018, the brand's top novelty is announced - the ZTE nubia Z18s smartphone.

Looking for revolutionary solutions

In 2017, by reducing its stake in Nubia to 49.9%, ZTE secured its own independence. The first device went on sale in 2013. The exterior was designed by designer Stefano Giovannoni. Gadgets of this brand are highly technical, have a stylish, bright appearance.

Nubia smartphones belong to the elite Hi-End class, despite this, their price is quite affordable. Recently, smartphone manufacturers, trying to stand out from the masses, offer the buyer new items with advanced technologies and unusual design finds: a retractable camera, a smartphone slider. A completely bezel-less display also becomes familiar.

Another design novelty is the second display. The first phones with two screens were already in the 90s of the last century - flip phones. For a long time, manufacturers did not think about an additional display on a smartphone, their thoughts were concentrated on the technical “stuffing”. In 2017, several companies start producing gadgets with an additional screen at once.

Such a novelty was evaluated as original, although the functionality left much to be desired. Appearing in recent years, smartphones tend to change the usual functionality. For example, to abandon the front camera and concentrate technical thought on improving the quality of the main one.

The need for a second display

Perhaps Nubia Z18s will initiate such changes. Unlike its predecessors, the second display of the smartphone has a diagonal of 5.1″. This screen looks very revolutionary. It solves the problem of placing the front camera, which has no place on the bezel-less panel.

The main display takes up 90% of the surface, so there is no space for the front camera. The screen with a high resolution of 2280 × 1080 pixels and a diagonal of 6.26″ is made using the latest OGS technology. The high quality and brightness of the display is ensured by combining the sensor with the screen and removing the air gap between them. The display has advantages over its predecessors:

• excellent color reproduction by reducing the scattering effect;
• viewing angle up to 180 degrees with the backlight on;
• high energy efficiency due to reduced need for brighter backlighting;
• dustproof.

The disadvantages of this technology include the high cost of such a display.

On the back side there is a second display that can act as a front camera when taking a selfie, as well as duplicate the main one. AMOLED color display with a diagonal of 5.1″ and a resolution of 1520x720 pixels, i.e. is a full screen with vibrant colors.

Two scanners and more

For pictures and videos, a dual camera of 24MP and 16MP is provided, located on the back side. Another novelty in the design of the smartphone is two fingerprint scanners located on both sides.

Advanced stuffing of iron

The dual screen smartphone is equipped with top specifications. The gadget has a powerful processor of the latest generation Snapdragon 845. It was presented at the end of 2017, and the first smartphones received the latest accelerator in February 2018. The processor is powered by eight Kryo 385 cores: four high-performance ones with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz and four energy-efficient 1.8 GHz ones.

The Adreno 630 video adapter is responsible for the graphic image, which especially shows its performance in games. Keeping the power consumption of the previous version, the graphics are 30% better. The Spectra 280 chip is responsible for image processing, which makes it possible to shoot in 4K and HDR at 60 frames per second, as well as in HD and HDR at 420 frames per second (slow motion).

Reliable OS.

The size of the RAM is 6GB or 8GB depending on the version, the internal memory is 64 or 128GB respectively. There is no microSD slot provided. The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest eighth version of Android. The operating system allows you to increase the speed and reliability of work, further saving battery power. New features include:

• expanded the composition and functions of notifications;
• the latest version of the application for the Xperia screen is included;
• automatic inclusion of links with linked applications. For example, a telephone number encountered in an e-mail is associated with a dialing window, etc.;
• picture-in-picture mode - view the necessary information or video in a reduced window, on top of the rest.

What else is included

What else can attract a Chinese novelty? The package with the smartphone includes wireless charging, OTG - an adapter that allows you to connect peripheral devices to your smartphone: a USB flash drive, keyboard, card reader, DSLR camera, and a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. The device has a capacious 3800 mAh battery. Working time in normal mode is 2-3 days.

At the beginning of October 2018, there was no official presentation of the ZTE nubia Z18s smartphone yet. Such a device will be of interest to those who love the revolutionary novelties that attract a smartphone. Considering that the previous version of nubia Z18 costs about $500, the price of the new flagship will be no less.
