Smartphone Vivo Y15: analysis of advantages and disadvantages

Vivo is preparing to release a new product called Y15, which will be a mid-range smartphone with a powerful processor and high performance. All the details are below in the article.

Brief information

According to the developers, their future project will be a bright representative of inexpensive and high-quality smartphones that have all the advantages of a high-budget class. This is evidenced by a powerful processor, namely Helio P22, a triple main and front drop-shaped camera, the Android Pie operating system with Funtouch OS9 shell and excellent device autonomy. The idea of transferring all the innovative features from expensive models to cheap ones has long appeared among developers, but only with this model the result met the company's expectations.During testing, the device showed excellent results, both in terms of performance and in terms of autonomy and reliability. Apparently, a worthy competitor has been born that can rebuff many Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung models.

Smartphone Vivo Y15

Design and ergonomics

Smartphone Vivo Y15 has a rather bulky dimensions: 160 mm long, 77 mm wide and 8.9 mm thick. At the same time, its weight is almost 190 grams. The size of the device makes it slightly difficult to operate with one hand, because in order to reach the top edge of the display, you will need to fully stretch your fingers. However, the smartphone sits comfortably in the hand and this is due to the rounded edges of the device.

The body of the back of the device is made of polycarbonate, and at the ends lies a layer of light metal alloy. Thanks to this combination of materials, the device has high strength, which will further ensure reliable use with moderate loads on the body. The only drawback of the appearance is that the surface finish has a glossy coating, and because of this, fingerprints constantly glow on the back cover.The model will be produced in three colors: red (red), blue (blue) and black (black). Each model, regardless of color, will appear with a gradient overflow in pink, purple and maroon shades.

In terms of the location of the controls, things are quite strict. In the upper right corner of the back panel there are three main camera modules that protrude strongly from the body, in the middle of the cover there is a fingerprint sensor. Its location is very convenient and when the smartphone touches the hand, the finger rests exactly on the surface of the scanner. The front camera is located at the top of the front panel. Its arrangement forms a teardrop shape.

On the right side of the device is the system power button and volume control. The buttons are in a convenient place and are slightly stiff when pressed. On the left side of the case is a slot for two Nano SIM and microSD. Also on this side is the "Smart Key", it is designed to turn on the Google Assistant or to launch the search engine of the same name.

On the bottom of the device are micro-usb, a headset port, a microphone and a main speaker. On the top there is an additional microphone and a retractable camera module.

Display

On the front surface of the device is a huge display with a diagonal of 6.35 inches and a resolution of 1544x720 pixels (HD). The display takes up almost 82 percent of the available space on the front panel and has a protective coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The chin and eyebrow on the front panel have literally disappeared, so it looks like the screen originates right from the edges of the case.

The display presents just a great image, all colors are saturated, bright and have high contrast.Using a smartphone on the street, you can not squint, as the picture on the screen does not fade and is easily perceived. There are no problems during night reading either, the visual component does not hurt the eyes. In general, it is worth noting that the screen is one of the strongest sides of the smartphone.

Hardware and performance

The Y15 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 quad-core chipset with a Cortex A73 socket (2 cores at 2.1 GHz) and a Cortex A53 socket (2 cores at 1.8 GHz). Such a processor is more than enough to handle all heavy and demanding applications. In combination with the chipset, providing the quality of the visual component, the PowerVR GR8320 graphics processor functions. The amount of RAM is 6 GB, and the internal memory is 64 GB. According to the developers, this is the initial configuration of the device. In case of lack of memory for especially advanced users, it is possible to increase the amount up to 256 GB. To do this, you can use a memory card.

In terms of gaming performance, the device shows mixed results. During testing, applications such as "PUBG", "World of Tanks Blitz" and Asphalt 9 Legends were launched. For example, "Battle Royale" worked at medium graphics settings and gave out 30-40 frames per second, and the asphalt functioned almost at high settings, but as the readings increased, FPS began to drop.

In order to improve the effect in games, Funtouch OS9 offers a special GameCube application that can increase the performance of the game process. The system has an alternative program that helps increase the readings of the central processor and optimize the RAM.In general, for fans of the gaming industry, this model will be an excellent option.

The Vivo Y15 boasts a decent level of autonomy, as the battery capacity is 5000 mAh. A fully charged battery will last for 10 hours of continuous operation at maximum brightness and the included Wi-Fi module. It will be possible to use game applications for about 7 hours and the smartphone will lie in standby mode for four days.

Camera

The front camera of Vivo Y15 has 16 megapixels and f/2.0 aperture. With it, you can take great pictures, accompanied by natural colors and a high level of brightness. Noise and distortion did not appear, at least in good light, and at night the pictures acquire a slight graininess.

The main camera is equipped with three modules, including:

  • 13 megapixels with 1/2.8 inch sensor and f/2.2 aperture;
  • 8 megapixels with wide-angle sensor and f/2.0 aperture;
  • 5 megapixels with depth sensor and f/1.8 aperture.

The wide-angle sensor has a 120-degree index, but the pictures are taken at 110 degrees.

An innovation in the main camera is Dual Pixel Focusing technology, which provides an increased level of clarity in pictures. Thanks to this, the image has a more detailed surface and a sharper color gamut. You can disable this feature in the camera settings.

There is nothing remarkable in the camera application itself, the same functions and shortcuts for the scan mode as in previous models of the manufacturer.

Communication and sound

The speaker for talking in the device has a good sound, the interlocutor is heard perfectly, the sound is loud and clear. But with the main speaker, not everything is so smooth.Its volume level is quite high, but the quality is noticeably lame. By setting the sound to maximum, you can notice slight distortion and wheezing. Apparently, the speaker is tuned more to high frequencies and because of this, such a sound. Using a headset, the state of the sound changes dramatically - the increased frequencies are covered by a balanced musical accompaniment.

The device has a Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth with a data transfer rate of 5 Mbps. There is also a fast connection to the GPS satellite, and a cold start is 5 seconds.
