It is not the first time that the Chinese company Oppo has made an attempt to enter the Russian market and promote its devices in our country. Let's just say that the previous times ended in a resounding failure. Smartphones of a little-known company simply got lost in the shadow of their eminent brothers and did not cause a stir in stores. We decided to tell in detail about the next device that appeared in Russia - OPPO F5 (32GB and 64GB) and discuss all its advantages and disadvantages.
In 2018, the market is filled with expensive flagships from well-known brands. The selection criteria for all users are different, but manufacturers from year to year strive to improve the ergonomics and performance of their devices, based on the wishes of customers.
Increasingly, lesser-known Chinese "comrades" are found side by side with well-known and famous devices, trying to attract the attention of users, despite the enormous competition.
One such device is the Oppo F5, which comes in 32GB and 64GB storage capacities. Oppo is practically unknown in our country, so it has not yet been able to win the attention and love of customers.
We will talk about what the developers of the smartphone offer us, and why it is worth giving it a chance.

Models are available on the market in several colors: black, gold, red.
The kit includes a USB cable, AC adapter, voluminous instructions and a simple headset. Also in the set there is a protective plastic case, which does not differ in perfect design or pleasant materials. It looks quite rough, besides, it increases the phone's body in volume. However, finding a suitable case for Chinese models can be difficult, so its presence in the package can already be considered a big plus.
The design of the smartphone at first glance is no different from most of its Chinese brothers, but it is quite pleasant to hold it in your hand, thanks to the metal coating and rounded side edges.
The phone is surprisingly light and thin, however, it tends to slip out of your fingers, which is a big minus. On the table, the device also does not lie flat, swaying from side to side from any pressure, which significantly interferes with working with it.
The phone is equipped with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 glass, there is no event indicator, which will be a disappointment for many users.
The fingerprint scanner works as it should, recognition and access are quick and seamless. Authorization for portrait photography works quickly and without problems even in a darkened room.
Physical keys are located at the same level on both side faces, which can cause a lot of inconvenience for users. When squeezing the smartphone in your hand, there is a chance to press all the keys at the same time, so this will take some getting used to.
Oppo F5 is equipped with a Micro-USB 2.0 connector, a 3.5mm audio jack and a pair of microphones on the top and bottom ends.
The phone is equipped with two slots for Nano size SIM cards, there is also a slot for a memory card.
Oppo F5 received an IPS display covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5. The physical dimensions of the screen are 68 × 136 mm with a diagonal of 6 inches. The display resolution is 2160×1080 (18:9).
The ambient light sensor (to the right of the loudspeaker) does a good job of adjusting the automatic brightness adjustment (both indoors and outdoors). There is also a night mode that does not tire your eyes even when working with a smartphone for a long time.
Thanks to the high maximum brightness, you can use the device without much difficulty even on a very sunny day.
The screen flicker is completely absent, the colors are bright, saturated and contrasting.
The screen is scratch-resistant, has good anti-glare capabilities and an oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating that protects the screen from fingerprints. Multi-touch supports up to 10 touches at the same time.
Oppo has made a special emphasis on the characteristics of the front camera, which will surely please selfie lovers. 20 megapixels combined with an f/2.0 lens aperture and a 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor allow you to take clear and high-quality images. Photos are well detailed, color reproduction is realistic, although the dynamic range is far from ideal. Even under standard shooting conditions, you can encounter the appearance of overexposed places and glare.
The Oppo F5 features built-in SelfieTune hardware that enhances image capture and processing technology. The program is able to recognize more than two hundred points on the face, creating improved, but as natural as possible photos.
However, in practice, photos are photoshopped according to all the canons of the Asian beauty industry. Texture smoothing makes the face look like a Barbie face, so not everyone will be able to fall in love with the built-in beautifier.
The main camera is equipped with 16 megapixels (even less than in the front) and f/1.8 lens. Users have awarded autofocus with a lot of positive feedback. It turned out to be fast, you can be sure that the pictures will turn out clear.
The interface here is simple, there are no special shooting settings. There is only a scrolling strip with a choice of shooting mode, everything is quite minimalistic.
There are no complaints about the quality of the picture, the camera copes with its work quite adequately both indoors and outdoors at different times of the day. High resolution allows you to shoot almost everything without worrying about losing small details.
Video recording supports a maximum resolution of 1080p, which is slightly lower than that of world leaders, but in general this is a good indicator.
There are no complaints about the function of making calls. The voice of the interlocutor is heard clearly and without noise, the volume is sufficient even under conditions of city noise, there are no breaks in communication. The phone is equipped with a function for recording incoming and outgoing calls, which works well and is really convenient to use.
The phone supports two SIM cards in Dual SIM Dual Standby mode. In active standby mode, the smartphone supports both SIM-cards in both 3G and 4G modes simultaneously. The user can select a card in advance, which will later be used for SMS messages and voice calls. The vibrating alert, by the way, is rather weak here, you can simply not feel it through your pocket or especially your bag.
The phone works flawlessly in both Wi-Fi bands (2.4 and 5 GHz), while surfing the Internet there were no issues with the operation of the module. There is support for creating a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels - Bluetooth version 4.2 is supported.
The main disappointment was the lack of an NFC module in the phone. In 2018, contactless payment in stores has become commonplace, it is strange that the developers did not take care of such an important detail.
The phone is equipped with the Google Android 7.1 software platform with its own Color OS shell (version 3.2). The interface is as close as possible to "apple" devices, the appearance and size of the icons, the notification and settings panel (moved down, as in iOS). Like the iPhone, the Oppo F5 does not provide a device reboot, it only has a device shutdown button, which is a rather unpleasant minus of the device.
There is support for gestures, but such a feature will be difficult for many users. There are a lot of gestures, a specific part of the screen is allocated for each. It is easy to miss and instead of opening the browser, you, say, call your colleague.
Among the useful programs are a compass, a voice recorder, FM radio, your own phone theme store and a nice addition: a two-window mode (split screen).
The internal audio player has a nice interface and simple functionality, supports all modern audio formats. Unfortunately, the smartphone is not able to impress users with excellent sound quality. Music from both the speaker and the headphones will sound average and have a not too wide dynamic range. And the volume, frankly, is sometimes not enough.
MediaTek MT6763T (Helio P23) is a fairly modern chip designed for mid-range phones. The chip (despite its rather average specifications) has a fairly modern ARM Mali-G71 video accelerator (dual-core, 770 MHz) that supports the Vulkan graphics API.
With such characteristics, you can not worry about the performance of the phone even while playing games. The device is guaranteed not to freeze or slow down during multitasking, moving from tab to tab will be fast.
The Oppo F5 packs a 3200mAh battery which is pretty average. He is guaranteed to live until evening exercises, but you should not expect special miracles from him.
The test results were carried out on the standard power consumption mode (without the battery saver function):
In reading mode, the smartphone will work for 18 hours, in video playback mode a little more than 12, in game mode, the battery life will not exceed 6 hours. All measurements were taken using the average backlight level of the device.
From the network device Oppo F5 will be charged for about two hours. The device does not support wireless charging.
Smartphones from Oppo have come to Russia again, this time making their target audience of young people who are fond of portrait photography. Indeed, except for the camera, the Chinese device has nothing to surprise users with.
Pretty simple hardware, average sound, poor ergonomic solutions, somewhat overpriced (18 thousand rubles on average) - Oppo F5 is unlikely to become a serious competitor for more well-known flagships. Nevertheless, a nice design and user-friendly interface can still allow the phone to find its niche and win at least a small circle of admirers in Russia.Time will tell, we wish the company good luck and look forward to new products.
Considering all of the above, we can guarantee that the phone can be a gift for a person who is not experienced in the issue of top-end devices or who likes to capture their every day in a photo. If you fall into this category, perhaps the Oppo F5 will be able to please you and last for many years.
