OnePlus 7T Pro smartphone review with key features

On September 26 in India, OnePlus was going to introduce two new products - OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro. The presentation took place, but only one smartphone - OnePlus 7T. For what reason the Pro version was not presented is unknown. Perhaps the manufacturers needed time to improve the software, or the delay was caused by a desire to create a buzz around the new product.

The release of the long-awaited OnePlus 7T Pro was held on October 10 in London. There was also, already presented in India, OnePlus 7T, as well as a special edition - OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition.

Overview of the improved flagship

The presentation that took place somewhat disappointed the public, since the 7T Pro turned out to be almost a copy of the OnePlus 7 Pro presented in May this year. However, small improvements are sure to please many consumers:

• "under the hood" is the most powerful processor;
• increased battery autonomy by 85 mAh;
• there is support for fast charging, with a power of 30 W;
• an improved software algorithm that allows you to get better photos and videos;
• new operating system and firmware;
• new coloring and macro mode.

What a smartphone looks like and where the cameras, connectors and keys are located

The design of the novelty is practically the same as its predecessor - OnePlus 7 Pro.

The front panel is occupied by a large screen, the ratio to the body of which is 88.1%. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The main highlight of the visual component is the curvature of the display on the sides, which makes the image deeper. The frameless display does not have a cutout for the front camera, but there is a small chin.

The rear panel is made of frosted colored glass, it contains: a triple rear camera, in a separate dedicated module, below the LED flash, and on the left is the laser autofocus system. Also on the panel under the LED flash is the company logo, and at the bottom of the inscription "OnePlus". The lid is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The laser focus sensor moved to the left side of the panel is the first difference between the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro. The second difference is the color. The novelty comes in only one version - the color Haze Blue, which means blue haze. The blue haze is a very nice gradient of dark blue at the top to light blue at the bottom.

Note! Despite the almost identical design and ergonomics, cases from OnePlus 7T will not fit the novelty. The cover will cover, located on the left side of the panel, the automatic laser focus sensor.

The frame of the device is made of aluminum, it contains:

• in the upper part - the first microphone and the front camera built into the case;
• at the bottom - a SIM card tray, a second microphone, a speaker grill and a USB-C port;
• on the right side - the alert slider and the power button;
• on the left side - keys to adjust the sound volume.

The device has a very impressive size and weight, but a convenient aspect ratio of 19.5 to 9 will provide the most comfortable use.

Performance

The highest performance can be provided by the best processor, namely the Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855+ single-chip platform, built on a 7 nanometer process technology, and the Adreno 640 video card, with a maximum clock frequency of 700 MHz. The top-end CPU is powered by eight Kryo 485 cores: four cores clocked at 1.8GHz, three cores clocked at 2.42GHz, and single core clocked at 2.96GHz.

The Snapdragon 855+ will seamlessly run the most demanding games without any stuttering or other issues. The processor shows itself from the best side in working with any applications and during everyday use.

Interface

OnePlus is very particular about software. The main goal is to create the most comfortable user interaction with the phone. OnePlus 7T Pro is equipped with the latest Android 10 operating system and the updated Oxygen OS 10 proprietary firmware. Oxygen OS 10 has a number of the following changes:

• new interface design and advanced customization options;
• added new gestures and bottom navigation bar;
• a new gaming space has appeared that combines games in one place;
• smart display providing intelligent information to the user;
• spam blocking by keywords;
• updated reading mode;
• updated Zen Mode, which allows you to get rid of dependence on your smartphone;
• Horizon Light technology, which illuminates the curved edges of the smartphone when receiving notifications. You can choose purple, pink, blue or white.

Display

Fluid AMOLED display is the hallmark of both OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro.One of the best displays has a high resolution - 1440 by 3120 pixels, pixel density per inch reaches 517 ppi. The screen diagonal is 6.67 inches, the occupied area is 108.8 cm2. The screen contrast is 4000000 to 1.

In addition to the high screen resolution, the smartphone boasts its main highlight - support for an incredibly high refresh rate of 90 Hz. 90Hz ensures smooth and fast frame refresh for maximum enjoyment when playing games with high graphic demands or simply browsing the web.

The top display will provide the user with a wide dynamic range of colors and automatic adaptation of the screen brightness and contrast to the requirements of each individual scene. These characteristics are possible thanks to the support of the certified HDR10+ standard.

The display is able to optimize contrast and color saturation for maximum imitation of a paper book. And the safety and comfort during night reading will be ensured by VDE certification, which suppresses blue light radiation.

A fingerprint scanner is hidden under the display. The sensor response time to touch is only 0.21 seconds.

Cameras and their features

Users were not happy with the quality of photos taken with the OnePlus 7 Pro. Despite the improved software, the novelty will not show a significant change in the quality of photographs. The quality of photos and videos is above average, but users say that this is not enough for such an expensive smartphone.

Front-camera

The selfie camera is located in the body of the device, and if necessary, leaves it. The module moves out quickly enough, but it creates noise. The life cycle of a front camera is calculated at 300,000.The camera has fall protection: during the fall of the smartphone, the module automatically hides in the case.
The resolution of the Sony IMX471 sensor is 16 megapixels, the maximum aperture is f / 2.0, the pixel size is 1.0 microns, the sensor size is 1 / 3.1, the lens width is 25 mm.

Three modules are responsible for image quality:

1. The main lens is Sony IMX586 at 48 megapixels, with f / 1.6 aperture. The pixel has a size of 0.8 microns, the sensor is ½. The wide lens supports electronic and optical image stabilization and laser autofocus.
2. The wide-angle module is expressed by 16 MP, f / 2.2 aperture and 13 mm wide. There is support for autofocus and a panoramic effect that captures 117 degrees.
3. The 8MP telephoto lens has a 1.0µm pixel size and f/2.4 aperture. Supports optical stabilization, autofocus and macro, with a focal length of 2.5 cm.

• Portrait mode helps you get the best possible shot;

In general, in good light, the quality of the photos is very good, but in low light, there is a lack of sharpness, brightness and detail.

Battery

The non-removable 4085 mAh lithium polymer battery supports Warp Charge 30W fast charging technology. Up to 68% battery will be charged in just half an hour.

During fast charging, the smartphone does not heat up, as heat is generated in the adapter. Also, Warp Charge does not heat up the device during the game. What contributes to the built-in liquid cooling system of ten layers.

When watching YouTube videos using a Wi-Fi connection and set to 1080 resolution, the battery can last 12 hours and 19 minutes without recharging.

Sound

As already mentioned above, unfortunately, the novelty does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Another disadvantage is the lack of headphones in the box.

Of the pluses is the presence of stereo speakers, support for LDAC technology (signal coding for transmitting audio in high resolution) and Dolby Atmos sound (for realistic and high sound quality).

Communications and built-in sensors

OnePlus 7T Pro supports NFC technology, Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP, LE, aptX HD codecs, there is a reversible Type-C 1.0 connector, USB On-The-Go and USB 3.1. Built-in GPS navigation works with such programs: BDS, GALILEO, A-GPS and GLONASS. Wireless LANs are also supported: Dual Band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA. The radio is missing.

The following sensors are built into the smartphone: compass, accelerometer, proximity, fingerprint and gyroscope.

Memory and cost

LPDDR4X format RAM has a capacity of 8 GB, built-in memory specification UFS 3.0, which provides a read speed of 1.5 GB per second, is 256 GB.There is no expansion slot, but with such a large memory capacity, it is not necessary.

In Europe, OnePlus 7T Pro will be sold for 760-770 euros.

All in all, the OnePlus 7T Pro is a great option for the price. But if you are the owner of OnePlus 7 Pro, then there is no point in buying new items.
