Smartphone LG G7 One and G7 Fit - advantages and disadvantages

In October and November 2018, LG presented two new products to the public at once - this is the G7 Fit and G7 One model. Opinions about devices have been so controversial that, if you believe all the rumors, you can get confused. In this article, we will learn more about each smartphone, get closer to the truth and draw conclusions.

How it all began

Since 2000, LG Electronics has opened the production of phones with color screens, and has achieved tremendous success in this during the existence of the brand. LG was a pioneer in 2011 with the release of a phone with a 3D display. It was an LG Optimus 3D and you didn't need glasses to use it.

The year 2010 also became a landmark for the company - the Optimus One P 500 model then occupied the first lines in the global sales ratings, having stepped over the 60 millionth threshold in the sale of the gadget.

In 2012, the brand surprised everyone again when, in collaboration with Prada, the world was conquered by the hit Prada 3.0.
All phones came with Android on board.

Of course, LG is famous not only for mobile phones. Their home appliances, televisions, sound systems, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and much more, have helped to gain many fans of the brand around the world.

In this article, let's take a closer look at the new "inhabitants" of the company's lineup, namely the G7 Fit and One, consider the advantages, disadvantages, appearance and other features of the technical component of the products.

What will please LG G7 One and Fit

For everyone who is going to purchase the flagship One, the company guarantees that during the first two years from the date of purchase, the owner of the device will not be left without support, and will receive all updates of applications and firmware of the Android operating system very first.

The Fit is an even more simplified version of the flagship phone with an almost identical design. The only thing is that it is equipped with Snapdragon 821, which means that the price of the phone will be as affordable as possible. The company wants, by releasing this phone, to blur the line between flagship and mid-range devices as much as possible, adding here, albeit a little old, but a flagship processor, and even a stylish design.

But in Fit, unlike One, LG's proprietary shell remained. Like it or not, everyone decides for himself, but the company is developing it more and more, and now it causes less negative emotions than before.

Fit also has proprietary software installed in the camera app, so the built-in artificial intelligence will help you take clearer pictures. Below is a little more about the main features of smartphones.

Display

Both models have an impressive screen.And it’s not about color reproduction at all, there is nothing unique in this regard. The picture is very good, pleasant, but there is nothing supernatural in it, and taking into account the cost of gadgets of this brand, this is the norm, and you should not settle for less.

The display on both devices is large, with a diagonal of 6.1 inches. It is made using a high-tech energy-efficient IPS matrix. It is thanks to this technology that the screen produces deep blacks, supports the Always on Display function, has a good margin of brightness, and it is distinguished from AMOLED only by more natural color shades.

Despite the large size, both smartphones will be comfortable to hold in your hand. The backlight comes from the bottom of the display and not from the sides, as is the case with most competitive brands. It is due to this that the very energy efficiency, which was written above, is achieved.

Cutout on the screen, it is also a “monobrow”

Since the devices received high-quality IPS displays, there are no problems with hiding the “bangs” on the screen. If you hide it in the sub-items of the settings menu, then the top will simply be filled with black, and the boundaries of the cutout will not be visible.

A separate setting item is dedicated to what pattern or pattern the corners around the cutout will close - a very interesting and stylish solution. Many phone models have similar features, but the cutout decoration patterns are the most interesting in G7 Fit and One.

True, this feature will work only in the applications of the gallery, voice recorder and making voice calls. In other applications, the function does not work, but with the advent of updates, the developers will fix this error.

Opening the desktop or other applications - the cutout cannot be hidden. You will have to come to terms with this.When running full-screen games, the "bangs" area is trimmed neatly, but only in black, not in the pattern you choose. And even if in the settings you mark the item that you want to leave the cutout in place, this will not affect the situation in any way.

Speaker and sound

Another feature of the G7 One and Fit is a multimedia external speaker. According to the manufacturer, a resonator is installed inside the smartphones, with a volume seventeen times larger than on previous models. It's called the Boom Box, and is designed to provide deep bass, sound amplification, and other enhancements.

In tests, it turns out that this is just one good and loud speaker. But for flagships for that kind of money - the lack of stereo sound - this is a clear minus. It would be possible to ignore this feature, but LG actively praised the Boom Box, calling it a “trick” of the devices, that now many will be disappointed when they hear it “in action”.

No matter how LG's marketers amplify advertising, one thing is clear - a single speaker, even if premium quality, is not capable of delivering stereo surround sound.

For example, the same Asus Zen Phone 5z, where manufacturers installed two speakers without any Boom Sound, and other marketing frills. At the same time, Asus has a more pleasant sound.

If you compare LG with the same Samsung Galaxy s9, then there is nothing to say - Samsung is ahead. And all this is not to the fact that LG sounds bad, not at all. Only if you compare them with smartphones without stereo sound support.

As for listening to music with headphones, the sound is excellent. The manufacturer also pleased that it left a 3.5 mm jack in both models. to connect headphones. Well done on this, because in 2019, fewer and fewer mobile device manufacturers leave the mini-jack “untouched”.

Many built-in sound enhancement modes open from the notification shade. There are special modes for adjusting the sound when watching movies on a smartphone. Among the existing models on the mobile device market, One and Fit are the first to take into account such a nuance for comfortable movie viewing.

HI-FI mode makes the sound thinner and clearer. This feature is interesting because, listening to clear sound in headphones without additional effects, and then turning on the hi-fi mode, it is surprising that the sound can become even clearer.

cameras

After looking at the photo examples, it becomes obvious that this is not a flagship level at all.

Sample photo on G7 One:

How Fit photographs:

After viewing, you can see not very good detail, incorrect white balance, and the clarity of the photos is not at a high level.

In appearance, the cameras modestly fit into the design of the phone and almost do not protrude, which is a rarity in 2019. One of the modules is wide-angle, and this solution is much more interesting than those installed in almost every second flagship. The second module, which is positioned as a standard one, has a narrower viewing angle than, for example, MI 8, or One Plus 6, or the same HTC U 12 Plus.

Comparison of G7 One and Fit cameras:

In the Fit model, unlike the One, the manufacturer focuses on the fact that artificial intelligence is used in the camera application.

But today this is far from an exclusive feature, and even here his work is not at all top-notch. It seems that he just randomly goes through all the groups of words he knows - fruits, vegetables, animals, architecture, landscape. Even despite the fact that these objects are not in the frame of the smartphone.
The One shoots videos at 2160p, the Fit at 1080p.

Performance and operating system

The most frustrating thing is that on the G7 One, the developers installed a far from new processor for 2019 - the 835 Qualcomm Snapdragon, and on the 7Fit - the generally “older” Snapdragon 821.

Why the manufacturers decided to do this remains a mystery. And if they are suitable for everyday tasks, then in games both One and Fit will have a hard time. In colorful "heavy" toys with smooth animation, both models give out animation that is far from smooth, and noticeably slow down.

In addition, calling the built-in chips cold is also a stretch - the metal frames on the edges of smartphones heat up very quickly to an unpleasant level. Measurements showed a temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius.

Both devices support the simultaneous ability to use two SIM cards and increase the amount of storage using memory cards.

Branded shell

The fact that smartphones do not have enough power reserve, many blame LG's proprietary shell.

True, it was installed only in the Fit model, One will have a “clean” Android 9 Pie. The younger "brother" 7 Fit is less fortunate in this - the shell is overloaded with all sorts of small settings and tweaks. On the one hand, customization is great, and is fully consistent with the ideology of Android, but LG programmers were puzzled in earnest.

The settings menu is divided into four tabs, and each of them is almost the same length as the standard Android menu. And each of the points hides a scattering of sub-points. The shell also contains many programs, such as LG Assistant, Smart doctor, and others that few people use, but because of which the smartphone begins to “choke”.

Unlock

Removing the lock using the owner's face in real life will not work right away.The unlock function does not work well, especially if the light source is behind the owner of the phone.

In the settings, there is an opportunity to improve face recognition, but in fact, the program simply overwrites the current face, deleting the previous entry.

The fingerprint scanner can also be used, it works well on two devices, it is located in a convenient place, on the back of smartphones. It works quickly, except for touching with a wet palm - it is recommended to take devices only with dry hands.

autonomy

Under normal use, both models live from one charge from morning to evening, no more. If the use of devices takes place in active mode, then for peace of mind it would be better to purchase a Power Bank so as not to be left without communication at the wrong time.

The battery capacity of One and Fit is the same - 3000 mAh.

Pros and cons

After a brief acquaintance with both devices, it becomes possible to highlight the main positive and negative sides.

Advantages:
  • Appearance;
  • One G7 ships with Android 9;
  • Excellent sound in headphones;
  • Convenient fingerprint scanner;
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Flaws:
  • No stereo sound;
  • Face unlock doesn't work well
  • Photo quality;
  • Interface in the Fit model.

Conclusion

It becomes clear why LG smartphones lose in popularity to competitive brands. The brand is trying hard to be better than Huawei and Samsung, but the final result leaves much to be desired.

Both phones can compete with the Mi 8 and OnePlus 6. They have palpably good speakers, interesting sound settings and a headphone jack, along with water and dust resistance. But face unlock does not work well, worse than the competition. Photos are not of high quality, the interface is overloaded with applications, most of which will not be needed by the end user.

Support for products from the manufacturer is worse than that of the same Xiaomi and One Plus, despite the fact that, unlike LG, they do not position themselves as an A-brand.

Smartphones came out far from bad, but not for the money that they ask for.

Whether to opt for the G7 One or the Fit is up to you. Enjoy the shopping!
