Full review of Amazfit Smart Sport Watch 3 (Stratos 3)

At the last IFA exhibition in 2019, Amazfit announced a new model of smart watches Amazfit Smart Sport Watch 3 (Stratos 3), the advantages and disadvantages of which we will consider in this article.

At first, one gets the impression that the new product is similar in technical parameters to its predecessor, and only the design has changed. In fact, the Stratos 3 smart watch is positioned as a device that is intended only for extreme sports.

Review

Smart watches are equipped with a fairly large display, the diagonal of which is 1.34 inches. The model has 19 modes for sports, they stand out from the competition with a sporty design, and also amaze with excellent autonomy (about 2 weeks).

The device comes in a black cardboard box. On its front side there is a photo of the watch itself and the name of the model. Behind - serial number, technical parameters and certification data.

The package contains a more concise white box, which bears the manufacturer's personal logo in silver and the inscription Amazfit.

Appearance and display

If we recall the design of the predecessor, it becomes clear that the new generation of smartwatches has not changed much. This is a device with the same sporty appearance and round-shaped dial display. The watch looks “severe” on the hand, so it will be a great purchase for men.

Model dimensions - 48.6x13.4 mm (diameter and thickness). The weight of the device is 59.6 g. They feel comfortable on the hand and do not cause any discomfort. On the front is a reflective display with a diagonal of 1.34 inches and a resolution of 320x320 px.

The glass is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, so the watch is not afraid of drops and scratches. The frame around the display is made of metal, and the body of the model itself is made of polycarbonate materials. The lugs for fixing the strap are solid and made of plastic.

Below there are 4 contacts designed to restore the battery charge or synchronize the smart watch with a PC. An optical type PPR sensor is also placed here to calculate the heart rate. On the side (right) are 4 control buttons:

• to enable/disable the device;
• button for adjusting the volume level or scrolling down / up;
• back move.

Below, under the strap, there is a hole for the air pressure sensor. The strap dimensions are basic and are 22 mm. The strap is removable, made of silicone, painted black and has a perforation with an expressive pattern.

Data on smart watches is much better read in direct sunlight due to the reflective display. Indeed, the display quality is high and has good viewing angles. Such a display will perfectly prove itself during sports activities, regardless of weather conditions, since the data on the device will be clearly visible.

Among other things, smart watches are fully protected from water and meet the 5ATM standard, which allows you to dive with them to a depth of no more than 50 m. The design of the device, compared with its predecessor, has not changed much, but the assembly reliability has become noticeably higher.

Performance

The smart watch is powered by Sony's GNSS processor, which is energy efficient. In addition, the model has 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of ROM. This amount of permanent memory will be enough to download your favorite tracks and listen to them via Bluetooth 5.0 on any wireless headphones.

The novelty operates on the basis of a proprietary operating system, which was developed based on Android.

Functionality

Consider the functionality of the novelty and the extent to which they are comfortable in various operating conditions. To navigate through the menu, you can use both the touch screen and mechanical buttons.

The button located at the top is responsible for selecting and confirming the action, and the 2 buttons located in the center are designed to move forward / backward through the items of the current menu. The button located at the bottom is responsible for the transition back. The first thing the owner will pay attention to if he looks at the display of the device is the dial.

Here, everything is fine with the choice, since the novelty is compatible with both branded dials and dials of its predecessor, which, by the way, are incredibly numerous. If the user swipes down from the main screen, he will go to the quick settings menu, where there are buttons for switching to the following modes:

• "Do not disturb".
• "Smart" mode.
• "Ultra" mode.
• Instant access to parameters.
• Switching from flight mode.
• Display brightness setting.

The current date, the percentage of remaining battery power and the connection status of the device with a smartphone are also displayed here. With subsequent swipes down, the rest of the widgets are cycled through, the presence and sequence of which is regulated in the proprietary program from the manufacturer.

A swipe to the right pops up the alerts widget, which shows all the alerts coming to the device (including emoji). All this was very much liked by most users, in particular, who switched to the Stratos 3 after the Amazfit GTS model.

Program icons are available, but not all. The list of alerts is synchronized with notifications on your smartphone. If a player notification is hanging in the phone curtain, then on smart watches it is also possible to manage tracks using the notification widget.

By default, an incoming call notification is enabled, which you can ignore or mute the ringer on your smartphone. The left swipe opens the main menu, which contains the following items:

Settings

This menu has several subcategories. Let's consider them in more detail:

1. Connections. Here you can turn on Wi-Fi or connect gadgets via Bluetooth, for example, headphones, a chest heart rate monitor, etc.
2. General. Here it is possible to activate DND mode (according to the schedule, inclusive), turn on the "Flight" mode, adjust the vibration (including its intensity). In addition, here you can adjust the screen brightness, “find a phone”, set up a GPS connection, activate AGPS notifications, select the system language and adjust the time display format.
3. Preferences.Here you can configure the activation of the backlight with gestures or by pressing a button, the dial is selected and configured, and the notification about the start of the exercise is activated (when the device notices an activity similar to the start of the exercise, it prompts the user to remember it, while not from the moment you click on “Record ”, but from the moment the device detected activity). In the same way, the device is able to “think” that the user has completed the exercise, but forgot to click on “Save”, which, of course, the watch will remind you of.
4. Synchronization. This item is responsible for choosing the mode of synchronization of information with smart watches: in automatic or manual mode.
5. Device. Here it is possible to activate the "Ultra" mode, reboot or turn off the clock and reset the information.
6. About the device. It displays the name of the device, software version, certification data, MAC address, as well as the status of root rights.
7. Update. It checks for software updates and updates directly from the device (for this you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi wireless network).
8. Laboratory. This item makes it possible to activate the collection of information regarding physiological activity in order to improve the algorithms for its processing by the device in the future.

Sports functionality

Sports options are opened from the main screen by pressing the button located at the top. As mentioned before, this version of the smartwatch has 19 training modes that meet the needs of the vast majority of sports and healthy lifestyle fans.

What is very practical is that each exercise type has its own exclusive set of options, including display and gestures.It is worth noting that such a set functions exclusively in the process of a specific exercise. As soon as the user leaves a certain type of exercise, the general parameters of the device are immediately activated.

Battery

The model we are considering has a battery with a capacity of 300 mAh. To restore the charge from 0%, you will need to wait approximately 2 hours. If you believe the words of the manufacturer, then in the "smart" mode, the battery life of the device is equal to a week, and in the "Ultra" mode - 2 weeks.

With a working GPS, in the mode with an accurate indication of geolocation, the device will work for about 35 hours, in the "Balance" mode - 45 hours, and in the energy saving mode - 70 hours.
