Rating of the best manual and electric hacksaws in 2022

A good owner has a home set of tools and considers it a matter of pride. In the presence of a garden plot or a country farm, the list is replenished with specialized tools. The hacksaw remains the queen of the workshop and a reliable assistant, we will talk about the best electric and manual hacksaws below.

Types of hacksaws

Manual

Hacksaws are distinguished by their versatility, light weight and reasonable price, they are suitable for work at home and on the site, outdoors and for repairs.

Electrical

Cost, weight, size, need for power supply and functionality distinguish hacksaws for a wide range of processing:

  • tree;
  • metal;
  • ceramic materials;
  • plastics.

For long-term use, energy saving and decent quality of work, an electric hacksaw is indispensable. For machining in hard-to-reach places, a tool with an adjustable inclination angle, with a shortened frame, is recommended.

The cost of a hacksaw is affected by the quality of the material of the blade, the handle and the list of functionality. Ergonomics with rubber inserts and a two-component handle are considered optimal.

Steel, blade and teeth

The high content of carbon and silicon in tool steel, called alloy steel, determines the claimed hardness. The permissible flexibility of a hacksaw while maintaining wear resistance ranges from 55 to 60 HRC in terms of hardness.

The basic principle for selecting a hacksaw blade is the ratio of its length to the diameter of the material being processed, the coefficient of which is 2. The best option for cutting laths, skirting boards or bars is a length of 25-30 cm. For logs with a diameter of 25 cm, it is advisable to choose a blade of at least 50 cm in length. The width varies between 10-20 cm, it is important to remember about bending under load, thin saws will easily fail.

The teeth of the saw affect the cleanliness of the cut and the speed of the work. For relatively fine work, teeth from 2 to 2.5 mm are acceptable. When working with boards, you should opt for tooth sizes from 3 to 3.5 mm.For sawing beams and logs, you will need a saw with teeth from 4 to 6 mm, which are considered large.

Hardened teeth have a long service life when machining hard materials, but they cannot be sharpened. For dry types of work, hacksaws with the shape of the teeth of a regular triangle are used, however, in a freshly cut tree, such a saw will get stuck and we are talking about a cross cut. For raw material, a tool with an increased distance between the teeth, in increments of 4 to 8 mm, is used. Longitudinal sawing is carried out with hacksaws with "hook-shaped" teeth, sharpened on both sides. If long, complex sawing is necessary, a mixed-type saw is used, that is, with alternating teeth. A hacksaw with trapezoidal teeth has a special wear resistance, its disadvantage is the difficulty of re-sharpening.

Electric saws

Criteria for the right choice of electric saws

To obtain the desired result in the work of a power tool, it is necessary to provide:

  • weight - stationary or dynamic work ahead;
  • ease of use;
  • power - especially important for large diameter cuts and durable materials;
  • the ability to work from a battery, preferably with an indication and a quick charge function;
  • cutting depth;
  • canvas material,
  • teeth - type, pitch;
  • maintaining the frequency under load;
  • replacement consumables;
  • ergonomics.

The number of blades varies from one to two. A pair of blades is considered the most powerful equipment of the device; in the case of oncoming movement, vibration is damped and sawing cleanliness increases.

For volumetric cuts (brickwork, aerated concrete), a tool with a drive of 1 kilowatt or more is intended.

When making cuts on various materials, you should pay attention to the keyless replacement function.

With different thicknesses of the processed canvases, it is necessary to adjust the sawing depth. This function will increase the wear resistance and guarantee the accuracy of the cut.

The pendulum stroke can be turned off to reduce vibration and increase the quality of the cut, not every model “boasts” of such an opportunity.

It is not difficult to check the compliance of quality and price in a particular category by tracking test demos and reading reviews.

Do not overload a low-power electrical appliance with excessive amounts of work, in order to avoid failure of cutting blades and motors.

The stroke frequency characterizes the movement of the saw blade in its translational-rotational direction. A powerful model can “give out” 3000 strokes per minute. The adjustment function is a big plus, guaranteeing the optimal mode for each individual material.

A good specialist knows that the maximum load on the electrical appliance occurs at the moment the tool is turned on and off. The soft start function smoothes the starting current, which, with a power of 1600 W, ensures a uniform start to work.

Teeth, in the amount of 12-14 per inch, are suitable for cutting metal, metal pipes. 18 teeth per inch is required to cut through cast iron.

The ten-tooth rig is used for woodworking.
