Rating of the best Russian manufacturers of engineering board for 2022

An engineering board (aka “engineer” in everyday use) is an innovative type of flooring that is currently actively conquering the Russian market. It consists of several layers of compressed wood, fastened together. The resulting design is characterized by excellent parameters, among which stand out resistance to mechanical stress (especially for sharp impacts) and excellent wear resistance. At the same time, such products have a high level of environmental friendliness, which plays an important role in today's world. Accordingly, such hypoallergenic products are allowed to be laid in rooms where children and people with respiratory disorders or allergies stay.Engineering lamellas are usually made from valuable tree species - mahogany, oak, hornbeam, etc. The share of their mandatory presence in the total mass of the module should not be less than 25%, the rest can be replaced with plywood. A feature will also be the front layer, the thickness of which starts from 3 millimeters or more.

Basic designs of engineering boards

As well as parquet, an engineering board consists of several layers. Its top layer is always made of precious wood, and it must necessarily have a thickness of 3 to 6 millimeters. If you make this layer smaller, it will quickly wear out, and the flooring will require a large-scale restoration.The top veneer is glued to birch plywood layers that act as a stabilizer. Most of the types of products under consideration are produced in the Russian Federation with a tongue-and-groove connection, which is very attractive for a domestic buyer. However, the "lock" clutch is considered more reliable, but in the Russian market it has become widespread only in the manufacture of parquet. The lowest layer of "engineering" acts as a strong base and is made of plywood. Its main task is to prevent a change in the dimensions of the board module in width when a sharp change in the degree of humidity occurs in the lined room. He is also responsible for counteracting the delamination of the upper decorative part, made of precious wood.

Varieties of "engineering", common in the Russian Federation

For Russian conditions, the most optimal options for the material under consideration are its three varieties:

  1. "Rustic" - to make its upper lamellar layer at the primary stage, veneer is harvested, sawn at various angles. In this case, individual parts of the structure may differ slightly in texture and color. Also, the formation of minor and not strongly affecting the operation of defects is not excluded. However, at the same time, the material becomes the cheapest for its segment. Such products are perfect for large country houses and cottages. It can also be used in offices with high traffic. Due to the ability to withstand maximum loads, lamellas can be installed in kindergartens, schools, large offices.
  2. "Natur" - this variety is the "golden mean" both in price and quality. The veneer for it is usually prepared in a tangential way of cutting, i.e.tangential to the wood fibers. Defects are hardly noticeable, but it is possible to detect them if desired. With such engineering options, you can equip any home space - from the kitchen to the bedroom. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to issue excessive loads for Natura, because its lamellae are oriented to an average degree of stress, i.e. do not involve intensive movement on their surface. The variety is distinguished by the fact that it perfectly tolerates temperature differences.
  3. "Select" - the variety is a representative of elite samples, in which the conformity of color, texture and quality for each layer is fully observed. Production is carried out by the so-called radial method, which involves making cuts along the fibers. These models are very expensive, but their service life is quite long. The outer expensive layer cannot be less than 4 millimeters. "Select" is intended for laying in significant rooms - reception rooms, offices, ceremonial halls and living rooms.

Advantages and disadvantages of engineering boards

Like any floor material, an engineered board has a number of advantages, which lie in its special technical parameters:

It is characterized by increased geometric stability (the best among all types of expensive floor coverings), which is achieved due to the fact that all thin layers and wood fibers are perpendicular to each other. Thus, the product is less prone to cracking than a standard floorboard;

  • "Inzhenerka" adheres very well to most substrates. The reason for this may be not only high-quality glue, but also smooth processing of its inner surface.Therefore, it does not creak, it does not have the effect of knocking when passing, which creates additional acoustic comfort. However, in order to achieve maximum comfort, not only the lamella should be even, but also the base surface on which the attachment takes place.
  • By laying out the flooring in question, it is easy to achieve a solid solidity of the floor throughout the room, including the absence of thresholds in large halls or doorways. It is also allowed the interaction of "engineering" with other coatings that have a completely different structure. For example, porcelain tiles on the bathroom floor. Cork expansion joints can be easily used to avoid a sharp transition between two different floors.
  • Lamellas can be produced in very subtle variations. It is with such models that it is allowed to equip the home system of "warm floor".
  • The variability of the thickness of the top layer allows you to choose the required height for each specific room (somewhere the floor should be higher, and somewhere lower).
  • Restoration of the upper layers by conventional grinding is allowed, and this operation can be performed repeatedly.

The disadvantages of the lamellas under consideration include the following:

  • Unlike parquet, not every engineering board can be laid using the floating method (to a greater extent this applies to elite samples, but budget options can be mounted in this way). Gluing must be done with all care and it is better to use the most expensive and high-quality adhesive composition. Moreover, due to the high cost of the coating itself, it is preferable to entrust all installation work to a professional master.Thus, the cost of glue and the invitation of the master will become additional costs, which add up to the overall expensive cost of the material in question.
  • Even the most budget models have a risk of peeling off the base due to their initial poor-quality manufacturing. A similar situation is not uncommon when laying occurs on a screed. However, here you can increase the strength of the fastening by using a few self-tapping screws (but you can lose the presentability of the appearance).
  • Budget models usually have the cheapest plywood base, so even if their top layer is made of an expensive type of wood, over time they will certainly delaminate in the most inappropriate place.

Mounting methods

"Floating" mounting method

This is the easiest and cheapest installation option, which is best used for budget "engineering" models. It is based on the principles of interlocking. Its main disadvantage is the short life of the laid out coating. The entire load falls on the lock connection, which will weaken over time, and obvious gaps will form between the lamellas. Also, when installing by the “floating” method, the board will not be able to be updated with ordinary grinding. Simultaneous installation with both glue and locks can improve the situation somewhat, but this method is not a panacea.

Installation on a concrete base

According to this type of layout, it is allowed to mount both models with a tongue-and-groove connection and models with a “lock” connection. The main thing is that the wooden coating itself allows this. The method is easy and low cost. In the process of work, it is required to focus on three rules:

  • The concrete base must be even, dry and strong;
  • It is preferable to use only epoxy polyurethane adhesive, which will leave the modules able to "move" a little;
  • After laying, each lamella needs to be pressed down with heavy objects in order to increase the level of adhesion.

The working stage includes three steps:

  • Priming concrete base;
  • Attaching the boards with the proper adhesive;
  • Placement of weights to secure adhesive properties over the entire area of the floor covering.

Mounting on a plywood base

This method is the most reliable, ensures maximum coating stability and consists of the following steps:

  • The moisture-resistant plywood base is cut into uniform squares with sides of 30 centimeters;
  • Plywood is laid on a primed base in a checkerboard pattern with a gap between each square of 3-5 millimeters;
  • Plywood squares are attached with glue or with dowels;
  • After the glue has dried (the end of the installation on the dowels), you can start laying the "engineering".

This installation also has its own characteristics:

  • It is preferable to use a two-component polyurethane adhesive, which should be applied with a notched trowel;
  • Board material is not allowed to be applied close to the walls; gaps with a width of 10 to 15 centimeters should remain around the entire perimeter;
  • The board can be attached to the plywood with self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the spikes at an angle of approximately 35 degrees.

Combined installation

This method appeared in Russia relatively recently and it will require a special stencil substrate with glue. The substrate is applied to the base, it must be spread in such a way that the slots are along the location of the boards and which then need to be filled with glue.The main advantages of this method include:

  • Reliability - due to the use of elastic adhesive, the floor will be wear-resistant and durable;
  • Financial efficiency - the use of substrates with slots will cost much less than gluing to solid plywood squares;
  • Soundproofing - the slots will create a certain acoustic vacuum capable of absorbing sound with a volume of up to 16 decibels;
  • Space saving - if you use substrates, rather than plywood squares, you can save from one centimeter of cover height.

Engineering Board Care Tips

In order for the engineering board to last as long as possible, you should adhere to the following rules when caring for it:

  • Upon completion of laying, the remaining gaps between the coating and the walls must be closed with skirting boards. They should be matched to the color of the floor, as well as interior doors.
  • Any furniture present in a room with an "engineer" should have rubber or felt backings on its legs - this will prevent scratches and dents on the floor. For chairs with rollers, it is better to use special rubber wheels or put a special soft rug under them.
  • Use cleaning tools only those that do not have sharp metal edges. Sand and dust, other small particles from the floor must be removed with a conventional vacuum cleaner with a soft brush.
  • Washing the floor should be done with a well wrung out cloth on a mop. The main thing is to prevent the appearance of large puddles.
  • If complex spots begin to appear on the surface, then they must be removed with a special cleaner (although it is allowed to carefully use a standard alcohol solution).
  • Do not clean the floor with too abrasive materials, solvents and acids, chemically aggressive agents and powder detergents. All of them can leave indelible marks on the surface.
  • For an "engineer" it is better to maintain a constant air humidity in the room within 40-60%, and + 18 + 22 degrees Celsius will be the optimal temperature.

Difficulties of choice

Immediately before buying an engineering board, you need to decide on the following points, on which the purchase price will directly depend:

  • Type of wood and type of board;
  • The size of the middle lamella (module);
  • The thickness of the top layer;
  • Color shade.

As mentioned above, the durability of the material in question will be determined by the wood from which it is made. The best, but at the same time the most expensive, are ash and oak. These trees are characterized by increased mechanical strength and hardness, which allows them to easily withstand excessive loads. Maple, which is a little cheaper, may also be a good option. Its popularity in Russia is due to the beautiful texture (white or bright yellow), which adds originality to the overall home interior. Maple does not tolerate mechanical stress very well, but with proper care it can last a long time.

The choice of shade is very important for the overall aesthetic picture. If you want to visually increase the room volume, then the coating should be as light as possible. For classic interiors in dark tones, traditional dark brown colors are suitable.

When selecting the dimensions of the slats, it is first necessary to fully and accurately calculate the area of the installation room. Naturally, in a small area, too large modular fragments will look absolutely ridiculous and rude.However, even in a small area, you can create an original floor: for this, you can simply combine lamellas of various shapes and sizes. The main principle of such a design solution is that the largest modules are installed in the center of the room, and as they move away to the corners, they will decrease.
