On September 3, sales of smartphones Vivo Y20, Y20i started. Continuation of the budget, youth line. Judging by the characteristics, the novelty does not promise anything supernatural. Is that increased battery capacity and display size.

Vivo Y20

Main characteristics

Design

Both models are absolutely identical both in appearance and characteristics (it is not clear why it was to confuse buyers), the only difference is that the Vivo Y20 supports fifth-generation communication standards, while the Y20i does not.

The design is standard for Vivo. Narrow bezel around the perimeter and narrowed chin, plus rounded edges of the case. Nice, but nothing new.

The case is made of plastic, which is not surprising given the price. The colors are blue, black and white with a nice gradient. Here, the color palette could be more interesting (for the Indian market, for example, models are supplied in 6 shades). The cover actively collects fingerprints and dust, but the protective silicone bumper (included) will easily solve this problem.

The teardrop-shaped notch at the top of the screen for the front camera does not interfere with the view and is almost invisible. On the back cover is a rectangular module with three sensors.

On the right side face there is a fingerprint sensor, it is also an on / off button. On the left is a volume rocker and slots for SIM cards and a memory card.The charging port is at the bottom.

Despite the rather impressive size, it is convenient to operate the smartphone even with one hand.

Vivo Y20i

Display

Sufficiently large and bright IPS LCD - everything is perfectly visible even in the sun. The diagonal is 6.51 inches, but the resolution let us down. The graininess can be seen if you bring the phone close to your eyes, but such a drawback can be forgiven - the model is a budget one.

Of course, the factory protective film will not protect from falling, but from small scratches, especially if you are used to carrying the phone in your pocket along with the keys - easily.

Interface

Funtouch OS 10.5 add-ons allow the user to change any interface components for themselves, from the display theme to animation. There is a split screen function and an ultra-gaming mode with protection against accidental clicks, blocking call notifications and pop-up messages.

Main functions:

  • color setting;
  • intuitive control;
  • updated Jovi Home section;
  • the “intelligent editor” function allows you to choose the most successful photos;
  • S-shooting function;
  • iManager displays phone status;
  • UV filter and PWM flicker suppression;
  • support for Google services.

Plus good optimization, smooth operation without twitching, no delays when switching between applications.

The changes affected, basically, only the interface settings. In the rest - everything is standard and familiar.

cameras

Modern buyers do not like smartphones with a single camera. Vivo decided to keep up with the trends and installed a module with three sensors on the rear panel - the main one with 13 megapixels, and two 2 megapixels each for measuring depth and macro.The last 2 have practically no effect on image quality. The 8-megapixel front camera can blur the background and shoot video in 1080p at 30 frames per second.

Of the additional options - LED flash, HDR support, portrait shooting. As well as slow motion and interval shooting and the ability to shoot a "live" photo.

There is no point in talking about the quality of the pictures. The camera copes well with tasks in bright light - the photos are quite clear with good detail. In poor lighting, things are much worse. The picture is blurred at the edges, especially the contours of dark objects on a light background.

As for the video, there is no stabilization function, so in order to shoot a smooth picture, you will either have to use a tripod or hold the phone confidently in your hand, avoiding the slightest shaking. And again, you need good light. Otherwise, it’s better to forget about shooting altogether.

Battery

The battery capacity has increased to 5000 mAh, which is good news. Fast charging is supported but not included. But even with a standard 10W charger, you can charge the battery up to 100% in 3 hours.
If we talk about battery life, then the phone will last a couple of days without recharging. And this is in the mode of watching videos, communicating in social networks and making calls. When used in active game mode, the battery will run out faster - for example, 30 minutes of "tanks" ate 10% of the charge.

Performance

The novelty received a fresh Qualcomm Snapdragon 460, introduced earlier this year. When passing synthetic tests, it showed the usual results for budget smartphones. Yes, you can’t call a super-fast phone, but the price is appropriate.

On the official website in the description of the device it is indicated that it is suitable for games. Partly true - simple games just fly. But the smartphone is unlikely to cope with demanding ones, despite the gaming mode, unless you have to change the settings. But given the low resolution, the graininess will be more noticeable.

It should be understood that both models are just budget smartphones, and not premium gaming devices, so you should not make excessive demands in this case.

As for the video - everything is fine here. Movies can be watched calmly, without hanging. Thanks to the large display size, the device will also come in handy when traveling with children. Turn on your favorite cartoon and enjoy the silence.

Sound

There is only one speaker, located in the most inconvenient place. When watching a video, it is easy to block it with your hand. As for the sound quality, there is no talk of any stereo support. You can listen to music in the background, but you can't enjoy listening to it.

Memory

Both models come in the same configuration - 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, expandable using a microSDXC memory card. The slot is dedicated, so you don't have to sacrifice one of the SIM cards.

Safety

The fingerprint sensor is located on the right side (left-handers may be uncomfortable). Works almost instantly.

There is a face recognition function through the front camera. The solution is not very secure, besides, problems may arise when trying to unlock the phone in the dark.
Communications and additional functions

Everything is great here. Support for all existing communication standards, with the exception of 5 G (for Y20i), Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC for contactless payments.

In addition, support for A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, accelerometer, radio and proximity sensor. 3.5mm jack for wired headphones (not included).

Equipment

In the box, in addition to the phone, there is a charger, a cable, a key clip to remove the SIM card, a transparent silicone case and, of course, a quick start guide. The protective film is already pasted on the display.

Price and reviews

Sales have already started. You can order a novelty in major online stores and on the official website of the manufacturer. Discounted price - 12500 rubles.

Since sales in India are already in full swing, users are leaving feedback on new smartphones from Vivo. And if there are no complaints about the quality of workmanship and design, then there are questions about the characteristics of the camera and performance. Many also note poor sound quality and inconvenient screen unlocking.

Advantages and disadvantages

New devices are still positioned as smartphones for young people. Hence the affordable price and inexpensive case materials. If you want a good camera and a high-resolution display, it's better to go for a more expensive model. But, if you need a reliable smartphone that will cope with everyday tasks perfectly, then the new Vivo is a good choice.

They have a fresh, productive processor, a beautiful glossy case, a good amount of memory and a powerful battery.

Advantages:
  • price-quality ratio;
  • new chipset with good performance;
  • long battery life;
  • updated, optimized interface;
  • support for Google services (no need to dodge to install the necessary applications);
  • standard headphone jack;
  • silicone case included.
Flaws:
  • display resolution;
  • may freeze when working in multitasking mode;
  • bad sound;
  • lack of stabilization function.

In general, smartphones turned out to be really good, despite the mediocre sound and low display resolution. By the way, now both models are discounted, so you should hurry up.
