Vivo has officially unveiled a new series of smartphones with support for the 5th generation mobile network. Despite the fact that the novelty does not claim to be a flagship, S9 is the first device in the world with a Dimensity 1100 processor (it was presented by MediaTek in January this year), which is not inferior, if not superior, to Snapdragon 870 in performance. At least the results AnTuTu test with more than 600 thousand points is impressive. In design, both smartphones resemble the latest Apple gadgets (the only difference is the color of the frame around the perimeter and the location of the buttons) and are almost identical Vivo S 7 technical version.

What material the case will be made of is still unknown, but judging by the starting price of $370 for the older model, it will most likely be plastic. The color of the panel may also differ depending on the sales market. The frame around the perimeter is metal.

Both models are TUV and SGS certified, which confirms the compliance of equipment with European quality and safety standards.

The package includes a USB OTG adapter for connecting to a computer, laptop and a standard USB cable. A wireless headset is included with the Vivo S9, at least for the Chinese market.

OS

Android 11, with the Origin OS add-on (replacing Funtouch), which received a new design, dynamic wallpapers and widgets. Now the software can analyze user activity, supports 26 new control gestures and optimizes processes to increase productivity.

Capabilities:

• changing the style and size of icons (they can also be combined);
• synchronization of face and fingerprint recognition sensors;

• One button switch from Android interface to Origin.

The "dynamic effects" feature is useless (from a practical point of view), but interesting. You can turn on the animation, and then each swipe will be accompanied by the movement of multi-colored particles across the screen (their size can also be adjusted), or adjust the backlight of the display frame (with color, brightness, degree of transparency).

For those who use a smartphone for work, there is a convenient text editor, the interface of which practically does not differ from standard office programs. Sending text files takes a minimum of time. PDF files can be saved and sent in their original form, no additional software needs to be downloaded.
There is a function to save the last user actions. If you accidentally exit the application while listening to audio files or watching a movie, when you turn it on again, playback will start from the second at which it was interrupted.

In general, Origin turned out to be not only intuitively simple and understandable, but also interesting. You can probably learn about new features, discover useful functions, ad infinitum. Plus, users have more options to customize the smartphone for themselves.

Camera

The older version received a main camera with 3 sensors - 64.8 megapixels, plus a 2 megapixel depth sensor.The manufacturer promises:

• adjustment of brightness and contrast depending on the level of illumination;

Thanks to the autofocus function and near-zero lag, you can capture clear photos of moving subjects.

Selfie camera with 44 megapixel main sensor, autofocus and 8 megapixel ultra wide-angle for portraits with a field of view of up to 105 degrees. With these characteristics, you can get almost professional-level portrait photos. And given the large number of different filters and “improvers”, post-processing of images may not be necessary.

The characteristics of the main camera for the younger version are similar, but the front camera sensor is only 1 by 32 megapixels.

Security and additional features

Under-display fingerprint scanner and face recognition sensor. The latter, by the way, copes with its functions perfectly, even in poor lighting conditions. If desired, their work can be synchronized to speed up unlocking.

Of the additional functions - a standard navigator, accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope and compass.

Performance and Battery

Should be up to par, thanks to the octa-core Dimensity processor.Plus smoother picture quality, enhanced HDR10+ video quality thanks to MiraVision technology, and hardware-accelerated AV1 streaming video decoding.

The smartphone copes well with multitasking, supports the most demanding games without any problems. Gamers will definitely appreciate the speed of the sensor's response to user commands and the ability to connect special modes. To save battery power, the screen refresh rate and brightness settings can be adjusted independently. On the one hand, this is a plus, since you can choose the parameters for yourself, on the other hand, auto-tuning would be much more convenient.

The battery is lithium-ion, 4000 mAh for the older version. According to rumors, the battery capacity of Vivo S9e will be slightly larger, at 4500 mAh. There is a fast charging function.

Where could I buy

Sales of Vivo S9 have already started in China. On the Russian official website of Vivo, there is no information about the new smartphone yet, as well as on large marketplaces. On Aliexpress, the price of a version with 8 GB of RAM costs about 40,000 rubles.

By the way, when ordering from a Chinese marketplace, you should definitely study the characteristics of the devices. From the official announcement of the manufacturer, it is already known for sure that the Vivo S9 will be equipped with a Dimensity 1100 processor, while in the description in the product card of some sellers for some reason the Snapdragon 870 is indicated. So you should be more careful.
