Overview of vivo iQOO 5 and vivo iQOO 5 Pro smartphones with advantages and disadvantages

For all the time of global self-isolation, inspiration has found literally on all brands. The Chinese company Xiaomi with the long-awaited Mi 10 Ultra, the Korean king Samsung with the loud Galaxy M line, and even the hushed Google have prepared Pixel 5 fans for October. The very young brand IQOO (Aiku), which came out from under the wing of the established Vivo, does not lag behind the leaders of wireless networks. On August 18, 2020, two powerful smartphones entered the market - Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro - which successfully bypass high-profile new items in the ranking.

The moment of truth has come. In 2018, users experienced BOOM on huge phones that received the sonorous name “shovel”, in 2019 they laughed heartily at the multi-camera design, and in 2020 they have yet to try out the most powerful batteries. Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro just have 120W charging. Will smartphones be able to charge 25% in 5 minutes?

Design

The differences in both models are minimal, in contrast to the price. For twin smartphones, but with the Pro prefix, you will have to overpay $ 30. Dimensions, as well as materials, are the same. At the full disposal of users will be - 16 x 7.56 x 0.8 cm, with a weight of 198 grams.

Phones IQOO 5 (Pro) are made in a classic way. They have a regular rectangular shape, width and length allow you to use the smartphone with one hand (you can additionally configure gestures), but such a “shovel” will easily fall out of a free pocket.

It is worth taking care of the presence of a cover!

Chinese novelties for a rather high price of $600 were classified as somewhere between luxury and the average price category. Therefore, in both versions, the back and front parts are covered with tempered glass. The release was inspired by the successful Vivo X50, released in June of the same year.

Of greatest interest is the curved screen, where the bezels of a smartphone are also considered a workspace. On an extremely thin line are located: the unlock button, the volume swing. The fingerprint indicator is not found here either on the body, like Xiaomi, or on the side, like Samsung. IQOO has gone one step further with optical technology (including Face ID).

Unfortunately, the Chinese company has picked up the wave of wireless headphones, so wired fans will have a hard time without a 3.5mm jack.

The developers equipped the main camera with only the necessary lenses. There are 3 of them, framed in a dark glossy block. The brand logo is engraved in the lower third of the case. The front camera is represented by an inconspicuous sphere in the upper left corner of the screen.

The design of the models is strict and elegant, while smartphones do not look heavy. Selected specifically for the part of the population working in offices.

Equipment

The very first unboxings of foreign bloggers pleased users with an excellent package. The IQOO brand approached the design and assembly of the box with attention to detail:

  • Clip for sim cards (Dual SIM);
  • USB wire;
  • Adapter for charging;
  • Factory, transparent case;
  • Certificates and coupons.

The colors of the Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro smartphones are discreet, except for the model presented at the presentation of the 5 Pro with a white body and a bright line of red, blue and black (BMW). In addition to it, there is a black theme. Vivo iQOO 5 got gray (metal) and blue colors.

Screen

The display, being the heart of every smartphone, has received a number of best features from IQOO developers. A saturated Korean Amoled is taken as a matrix.The choice in its favor is obvious, peak brightness reaches 1300 nits, and in tandem with a 6.5-inch screen, every movie and productive game will run with pleasure. The resolution is - 1080 x 2376 pixels, with a ratio of 398 ppi in both versions.

The screen refresh rate is 120 Hz.

If desired, users can customize the display to their own preferences. Customization includes:

  • Blue filter (important, as Amoled sins with a PWM effect or flicker that negatively affects vision);
  • Font size and style;
  • Screen sensitivity (useful in cold weather);
  • The tone of the color scheme (scattering from muted to saturated shades).

The disadvantage of the matrix is rapid wear and fragility. On the other hand, it implies the presence of Always-on-display, as well as economical energy consumption.

Operating system and memory

Both smartphones are equipped with the latest version of the Android 10 OS, which has already managed to prove how easy it is to simplify your life in 2020. First of all, the user activates accounts at the first start, if desired, synchronizing with a laptop or tablet. Also pre-installed here: the main Google package, an engineering calculator, a built-in player (for a second, even Samsung cannot boast of this).

The limits of user settings have advanced far. Now they concern screen scaling, marking notes, messages. Thus, the OS, together with the author's IQOO shell, completely replaces the secretary corner and complements it with live themes, wallpapers and widgets.

The following RAM / ROM ratios are available to choose from: 256/8, 256/12 GB. Foreign commentators have already expressed indignation about this. In 2020, 8 GB of RAM greatly constrains the possibilities of buyers in the Russian market.Even with the purchase of a memory card, it will be possible to install no more than 5 overall applications (YouTube, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Whatsapp, etc.)

Performance

The famous Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with support for 5G networks is responsible for excellent performance in flagships.

Although soon his glory will pass, as there are already rumors about the launch of smartphones based on Snapdragon 875!

This processor is based on a 7-nanometer scheme and includes 8 simultaneously active cores. They are divided into three clusters. The first and most powerful part houses one Kryo 585 core at 2.84GHz for maximum performance. The second cluster accommodates cores clocked at 2.42 GHz. Rounding out the list are 4 cores to support a 1.8GHz system.

Interesting fact! As of September 2020, the 865 chipset is the best processor for Android smartphones. Moreover, it successfully competes with laptop products (Intel Core).

It also uses the latest Direct X 12 integrated graphics and the OpenCL task manager. The maximum RAM speed is 2750 MHz. Working in parallel with the Adreno 650 video processor will increase performance by 20%, while at least 10% lower power consumption.

One of the few drawbacks of the Snapdragon 865 is the support for memory up to 16 GB.

As mentioned above, now you can’t find a better version of this on the market, so any application for entertainment and work, with support for 3D graphics and dynamics, will run on the new Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro without any problems.

autonomy

Despite a number of positive characteristics of the screen, processor and system, it is autonomy that is losing ground in the new release.The non-removable battery is equipped with a capacity of 4000 mAh, which is prohibitively small for a 6.5-inch screen. Considering the average screen unlock rate and the importance of internet access in 2020, flagships won't last a day of active use, the standby number will increase by 4 days.

Of course, in this regard, the developers gave Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro a huge 120-watt charging unit, but how close are the figures from the advertisement to reality? As in the recent release of Mi 10 Ultra, 50% in 5 minutes in reality turned out to be no more than 15% in 5-7 minutes. The fast/reverse charge feature will speed up the process up to 100% in 40 minutes.

cameras

The interface of both cameras has expanded significantly. In addition to the usual IOS format, users will have to get acquainted with such functions as: flin video, night mode, scanner, perfect frame setting, etc. The toolkit of new cameras has also increased. Now all possible sizes are available, from 3:4 to 16:9.

Vivo iQOO 5 5G camera specifications:

  • 50 MP, f/1.9 aperture, (wide-angle);
  • 8 MP, f/3.4, 135mm lens (telephoto) and 5x optical zoom
  • 13 MP, f/2.2, field of view increased to 120 degrees, (ultrawide)

Characterizing the novelty, it is worth comparing it with the unsurpassed leader of this year - Mi 10 Ultra.

The first and most demanding test was the night mode. The result of both phones cannot be interpreted unambiguously. Some people will like the overexposure of the Mi Ultra 10, however, from a technical point of view, the soft darkening of the sky and the subdued light at the bottom look more presentable. Such a high-quality photo came out due to the f / 1.9 aperture, which actively absorbs light.There are practically no blurry lines in the photo, so minimal post-editing is required.

The second example was also made in an open area, but during the day and using the zoom. In this case, you can again see how the neural networks in iQOO 5 seem to impose a dimming effect on objects. The green color takes on a deep hue and the sky becomes hazy. The depth of the frame is well expressed, the photo looks voluminous and saturated.

The specifications of the iQOO 5 Pro camera are almost identical to the regular version:

  • 50 MP, f/1.9, (wide);
  • 13 MP, f/2.5;
  • 13 MP, f/2.2, 120˚, 16mm (ultrawide);

The front camera received a little - 16 MP, but it copes with the main task.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:
  • Big screen;
  • High-quality matrix and materials;
  • Running colors;
  • Many user functions;
  • Comfortable to hold even with one hand;
  • Powerful Snapdragon 865 processor;
  • High-quality cameras with a large number of modes;
  • Beautiful, modern design.
Flaws:
  • No headphone jack;
  • The PWM effect is bad for vision;
  • Small battery capacity.

Results and price

The price in Asia and India for both models started at $600, and no matter how foreign commentators complain about the huge price, iQOO flagships are worthy of this price tag. The design is made in neutral colors, the filling is complemented by a high-quality camera and a powerful processor. Therefore, the new Vivo iQOO 5 and Vivo iQOO 5 Pro will suit a wide variety of categories of the population.
