Review of the smartphone Oppo F15 with key features

Nowadays, there is no question of purchasing a smartphone. Consumers are tormented only by thoughts about which device to choose. The electronics market is so diverse and filled with all sorts of newcomers that sometimes it becomes quite difficult to make a choice.

Thanks to the hardworking inhabitants of the Celestial Empire, the prices for gadgets do not bite, and the quality, oddly enough, has been pleasing for ten years already. People calmly pick up “the same device”, and for the purchase it is not even necessary to take out a loan.

One of the reliable Chinese manufacturers is OPPO Electronics Corporation. We will talk about her novelty in our article.

The company introduced the Oppo F15 smartphone to the public. We will analyze the exterior, the filling, navigate by price, consider the functionality, and also do not forget to mention the advantages and disadvantages.

A little about the company

OPPO Electronics Corporation has established itself as a reliable manufacturer not only in the Middle Kingdom, but throughout the world, declaring itself for the first time in 2004.

And already in 2005, OPPO created an mp3 player in China and a DVD player in the US. The novelties received high marks, and the company earned further by releasing improved models. And in 2008, the Chinese released their first push-button phone, but by 2011 they realized that the idea was bad. So they took up smartphones. Their first brainchild was the Finder X903.

The management of the organization does not spare money on advertising, attracting stars, and positions itself as a company that produces products for young and fashionable people.

That is why, in the age of the popularity of social networks, especially Instagram, where there are incredibly many photos of themselves, OPPO is working on a selfie camera, adding new features.

The company also pleases with its pricing policy and the quality of its products.

About model

In an attempt to cover all the price niches of the market, Oppo took such an ambiguous step as releasing the same models. Rather, there is a difference, but only in the use of case materials. At the end of 2019, the company released the A91 model and just a month later announced the release of the same model, but under the name F15. With the difference that the latter is a budget model with a body made of plastic.

Oppo F15

Camera

In the budget smartphone segment, there are not many models that can boast a quad camera.Especially with a resolution of the main module of 48 megapixels. This is what is emphasized in the advertising company F15. Moreover, it supports such functions that are in demand today, such as:

  • HDR
  • panoramic shooting.

The main sensor uses 4-pixel-to-single technology and a 6-lens optical system to produce crisp, detailed images in low light conditions.

And a bunch of the other three modules very decently expands the functionality of image capturing tools. The second module is a super wide-angle camera with a 119-degree image capture angle and a resolution of 8 megapixels.

The next module is also an independent camera used for macro photography from a distance of 3 to 8 cm. The fourth matrix itself does not shoot anything. It is designed to work with the main one, to get portrait shots with bokeh effect.

I would especially like to note the effective operation of the EIS system - electronic image stabilization when recording video. Thanks to the built-in gyroscope, you can forget about video shaking when recording on the move.

The front camera with a resolution of 16 megapixels is also not often seen on mid-budget models. But so much the better for potential buyers. Now everyone will be delighted with high-quality selfies. The front camera is located on a ledge at the top center of the screen.

Recently, manufacturers have been trying to get away from such an arrangement of the front camera, placing it for the most part in a special cutout to increase the usable screen area. But in this case, the bangs are so small that it does not affect the picture in any way.

Advantages:
  • quad camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels;
  • macro camera;
  • good selfie camera
  • the presence of an image stabilization system.
Flaws:
  • no optical zoom system;
  • low resolution beyond the wide-angle matrix.

Screen

For a mid-budget smartphone, equipping an AMOLED display has not yet become the standard. Most manufacturers prefer to install cheaper IPS matrices. But Oppo thought otherwise. To promote the product, we decided to use higher quality components. And in this they are right, AMOLED displays now provide the most juicy and bright picture, even when used in sunlight.

Brightness of 430 nits will ensure readability in any conditions. With regards to the size of the display, the diagonal is not the smallest - 6.4 inches. So the device will not be comfortable in every hand.

The aspect ratio of 20:9 with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels is almost ideal for watching modern movies, and even more so for reading or surfing the Internet.

The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, which protects the device from scuffs and scratches.

Advantages:
  • AMOLED matrix;
  • Gorilla Glass 5 coating.
Flaws:
  • not detected.

Filling

For technologists, the filling of the smartphone will cause disappointment, the top-end hardware is not used in this device. But it is obvious, the class of this device assumes average characteristics.

The Mediatek MT6771V Helio P70 platform was used as a basis. The processor, although eight cores, is rather weak by modern standards. The Mali-G72 MP3 chip was used as the graphics core, which is also a weak solution.

Of course, undemanding games will go with a bang on this device, but with modern ones, difficulties may arise.But the amount of RAM is not like the processor and the video core pleases, 8 GB is not found in every smartphone. And the built-in memory is enough for the first time - 128 GB. If it seems a little, then the matter is easy to fix. Fortunately, the model has a dedicated slot for a memory card.

For communication with external devices and navigation, the smartphone is equipped with modules:

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax;
  • Bluetooth 4.2;
  • GPS with support for A-GPS, GLONASS, BSD navigation systems

Those who are used to using the phone as a means of payment will be disappointed, the NFC module is not installed in the device, which again indicates the budget performance of the F15.

Advantages:
  • 8 GB of RAM;
  • dedicated memory card slot.
Flaws:
  • weak processor and graphics core;
  • no NFC module.

Design

In fact, all modern smartphones come out with a minimum number of physical buttons. And the F15 was no exception - a rather ascetic design commands respect.

Despite the fact that the body is made of plastic, the device does not look cheap.

The manufacturer offers two colors: black and white. Let's just say it's a poor choice.

The entire front surface is occupied by a display with a minimal frame. The only outstanding detail on the back surface is the camera block. Even the company logo printed on the back cover looks somehow modest.

As already noted at the very beginning of the review, the device is a copy of the A91. And in terms of the location of the power buttons, and in terms of adjusting the sound on different sides of the device. What is reflected in the controllability of the device with one hand is not for the better.

The bottom edge is given as standard for a USB 2.0, Type-C 1.0 charging connector and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

There is no separate fingerprint scanner, but it is nevertheless present. The smartphone uses an optical sensor placed under the display.

According to information from the presentation, this scanner quite quickly determines the owner: in just 0.3 seconds. But it is not known how the performance will show itself in the cold. As you know, optical sensors are not very fond of negative temperatures. And for our country, this issue is very relevant.

Advantages:
  • ascetic design.
Flaws:
  • the position of the device control buttons;
  • lack of bright body colors.

System

The past year 2019 was marked by the release of the Android 10 operating system. But this device has the previous version - 9.0 (Pie). In this connection, the manufacturer uses an older system is unknown. Perhaps it is more developed, or the matter is in the sanctions against China.

Information about whether the smartphone will be updated to the new version is not yet available.

On top of the system, the ColorOS 6.1 shell is installed, which is a proprietary development from Oppo.

autonomy

The autonomy of the device is achieved through the use of a non-removable battery with a capacity of 4025 mAh. According to the manufacturer, this volume is enough for two full days of work, which is confirmed by world statistics.

As a nice addition, the device is equipped with a 30 W charger, which can fill the battery to 50% capacity in half an hour. And just five minutes of charge is enough for two hours of talk time.

Advantages:
  • fast charger.
Flaws:
  • not detected.

Price

According to reports from internal sources, the price of the device will be around $280. For smartphones of this configuration, the price is quite average.In financial terms, there are no competitive advantages. How much this model will cost in Russia is not yet known. F15, like its predecessor A91, are presented only in the Asian market segment.

Conclusion

F15 is ambivalent. On the one hand, a cool camera, RAM and display are beyond praise, and on the other, frankly weak hardware. Of course, everything is decided by the economic factor and it is impossible to get a top model for the money that the manufacturers are asking for. But how justified is the release in such a configuration, only time will tell. For those who care only about the camera, we can advise this smartphone for a closer acquaintance. And for those who are interested in performance, it is better to pass by.
