Overview of the Nokia 2.3 smartphone with key features

A new device has appeared in the budget range of smartphones. They became Nokia 2.3, presented by HMD Global at a presentation in Egypt.

The company focuses on advanced design developments that have made it possible to integrate a dual camera and flash into the back of the device at the same level. The strength and rigidity of the whole structure is ensured by a high-precision aluminum die-cast chassis. This guarantees additional protection of the internal filling.

Externally, the smartphone does not have any super features. Classical shape and arrangement of control buttons.

The front panel with thin bezels is completely occupied by the screen, only the bottom bezel is slightly wider than the rest with the Nokia inscription. Above is a traditional cutout for the front camera.

Rear panel with vertical camera centered at the top. Below is the brand name.

The dimensions of the device correspond to 15.7 * 75.4 * 8.7, weight - 183 grams. The usual dimensions for this type of device.

Case material plastic/metal. High-quality plastic combined with metal is the perfect shell for an inexpensive phone.

There are several color solutions for users to choose from: gradient colors with a transition of shades from dark to lighter - graphite, turquoise and gold. The surface is corrugated (ribbed polymer coating), it gives the impression of a small strip on the lid, not slippery, a well-provided safety measure, a safety net against accidental falls.

It should be remembered that this is a representative of the budget link, so it is impossible to find something out of the ordinary here.

Advantages:
  • Classic appearance;
  • Narrow bezel front panel;
  • Convenient dimensions (although the phone may seem thick to some);
  • You can choose the appropriate color.
Flaws:
  • Given the price category, we can say that the disadvantages are completely absent.

Display

IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with a diagonal of 6.2 inches, which equals 95.9 sq. cm. Compliance with respect to the entire body of the apparatus is approximately 80.7%. HD+ (720p) resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio.

This type of screen is common for inexpensive smartphones and is considered quite good in terms of color display, eye protection from overvoltage and picture quality. Familiar color display in 16 million colors and shades. Their saturation is the same on the entire surface, including in the corner zones.

Minimal bezels around the perimeter make the display visually larger, which is great for viewing any files. Internet surfing even in bright sunlight will not fail.

Advantages:
  • Large screen with minimal bezels;
  • High-quality display of colors and shades (16 million);
  • Eye protection.
Flaws:
  • None.

Processor, platform and memory

Nokia 2.3 has become the carrier of a chipset from Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 (12 nm). Quad-core processor (Cortex-A53 with a frequency of 2 GHz), created using a 12 nm process technology. A good solution for a state employee with moderate appetites for energy consumption. PowerVR GE8320 graphics, according to the same Mediatek, is 72% faster than the competing Qualcomm Snapdragon 425.

Naturally, the device does not have any super gaming abilities. Simple versions of games are available, but all standard applications are included. Of the intellectual capabilities in the arsenal, only some image correction. There is no face unlock, but when photographing, facial features are recognized and become an object for focusing.

CorePilot monitors the temperature of the device, preventing it from overheating. The main advantage of this chipset is its economy and endurance. These abilities are more than enough for an inexpensive model costing just over $100.

Operating system

Familiar Android 9 without any additions. The manufacturer promises an update to Android 10. In addition to this, a firmware update for 2 years and a monthly security update for the next 3 years.

Memory Nokia 2.3

The new low-cost smartphone has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. These are excellent options for a budget employee. Especially when you consider that there is the possibility of additional expansion up to 512 GB with a separate slot for microSD. Not even all mid-range phones have a separate slot for a memory card. This device will be able to fully support the dual standby mode of SIM cards with active flash memory.

Advantages:
  • Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 (12nm) is based on the 12nm process technology, which greatly improves the energy properties of the device;
  • A complete set of all necessary applications is offered;
  • The volumes of the main and built-in memory contribute to the correct operation of the platform, preventing slowdowns and freezes;
  • There is a separate slot for microSD;
  • The amount of additional memory can be increased to a maximum of 512 GB, which gives the smartphone a big advantage over other representatives of the budget range;
  • The manufacturer guarantees automatic updating of the operating system with the new Android 10, and also reserves long-term maintenance of firmware and security systems.
Flaws:
  • Artificial intelligence has limited capabilities;
  • The device is clearly not a gaming device, you can only run light outdated games that do not have special graphics requirements.

Camera properties

What is special about the cameras of a budget smartphone. It is difficult to experiment and invent here without increasing the cost. Therefore, with the parameters of the cameras, everything is simple, in some places even very primitive.

Main camera

It is located in the center of the rear panel in a vertical block of two sensors: a 13 MP main lens + a 2 MP depth sensor. LED flash at the bottom of the design.

The parameters of the rear camera cannot be called fantastic, but given the budget version of the device, it can be used to get quite acceptable pictures. The flash will help to cope in the absence of proper lighting, although night photos are unlikely to delight the user. There is a digital zoom, suitable for dynamic video shooting. Jerks and vibrations during the approach will not interfere with the process, the dynamics will stabilize automatically. In addition, there is a function to select the best frame. The photo program of the device produces the most successful frame of the resulting ones. Two modes are available: continuous dynamic shooting and high dynamic range.

The image is moderately bright and clear. If you allow the necessary time between shots to fix the focus, then there will be no blurring.

Front-camera

Classic location at the top of the front panel. The cutout for the camera is delicate and miniature. Selfie lens - 5 megapixels. This is clearly not enough, and therefore you should not expect something supernatural. Primitive artificial intelligence finds faces and recognizes some imperfections, removing them. All this is at a fairly low level.Although what to expect from a budget smartphone costing just over $100.

Advantages:
  • The presence of a depth sensor paired with the main lens significantly improves the quality of images;
  • The auto LED flash performs well in low light;
  • Focusing eliminates blurring of pictures, although it takes quite a long time for its full effect;
  • The “recommended shot” function is activated, suggesting the best of the captured frames.
Flaws:
  • The resolution of the front camera is minimal, so the quality of photos and videos will be at a low level.

Battery and device autonomy

The battery is probably the only thing that really deserves praise. Non-removable 4000 mAh lithium polymer battery. Its main advantage was the large volume and low level of self-discharge. With the use of proprietary technology "Adaptive Battery", the manufacturer promises a battery life of up to 2 days. But the volume itself says a lot about itself: in a state of active use without recharging, the operating time will be at least 8-10 hours, while watching videos and surfing the Internet up to 7 hours.

Advantages:
  • Large battery capacity;
  • Economy mode "Adaptive battery";
  • Battery life is about 2 days.
Flaws:
  • No fast charging;
  • Slight overheating during active use of the device.

Sensors and communication properties parameters

The smartphone supports Bluetooth version 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 (with access point), GPS with A-GPS technology, GLONASS, BDS. USB ports: for charging microUSB 2.0, USB On-The-Go.

Radio FM is a feature of all state employees, which will undoubtedly please most users. Accordingly, a 3.5 mm jack is provided for the headset.

The package includes a proximity sensor and an accelerometer (motion control).

Advantages:
  • Bluetooth 5.0, unlike the previous model;
  • Fast mobile Internet, high-speed wi-fi;
  • Radio FM available.
Flaws:
  • Many sensors are missing.

Nokia 2.3. will take its rightful place in the budget niche of smartphones. There is no shadow of a doubt that users will respond to the call of a reliable manufacturer. If the device is used for conversations, then it will more than cope with the task. Light Internet surfing is also quite affordable. Well, even if the device is not a game device and does not have the super properties of a camera, but the buyer takes it at such a price at which it is hardly possible to buy something better. And Nokia, it's still Nokia, whatever one may say.
