The launch of the iPhone 12 Pro is scheduled for this fall. The presentation, according to tradition, should take place in mid-September if the coronavirus pandemic does not make its own adjustments. Judging by the information leaked to the network, the novelty will differ not only in an updated design, but also in improved camera performance and a powerful processor.

Main characteristics

Design

The Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max will be released in an updated, improved design: front and back panels of Gorilla Glass (some sources indicate the use of sapphire) and a stainless steel frame between them. According to rumors, at least 2 smartphones from the line will change their appearance dramatically - a rectangular frame (like the iPad Pro), instead of the traditional one - with rounded edges. The improvement mainly consists in the use of a new casting technology for the production of the frame, which will help reduce the negative effect of metal on the quality of the connection. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the use of new technologies will affect the cost of production (on average by 60%), which is likely to affect the final cost of the smartphone.

What will change:
In addition to the dimensions - the new model will be 5 mm thinner than the previous ones, it is worth noting the following possible changes:

• larger camera lens;
• the SIM card slot will move to the left side;
• reduction of the side frame on the display by almost half (compared to the previous version - 11 Pro);
• the frame at the top will remain, but will become much more compact;
• the speaker grill will change slightly;
• the power button will move a little lower.

The new series of smartphones will continue to use the Lightning port, instead of USB-C.
Little is known about the color of the back panel. It is possible that one of the smartphones in the new line will come out with a new dark blue finish (similar to the iPhone 11 Pro, when the company introduced the gadget in a new green color).

Display

All new gadgets in the line will receive an OLED display, regardless of the model (gadgets with a diagonal of 5.4, /6.1, /6.7 inches are planned to be released). More precise characteristics have not yet been disclosed. But it is worth noting that some details about the 12 Pro line are already known. For the first time in its history, Apple will introduce a flagship smartphone with a diagonal smaller than in previous devices. It seems that the company decided to listen to the opinion of users and, by popular demand, will release another compact version of the iPhone.

As for the Pro Max, the smartphone will come with a 6.7-inch screen, Samsung OLED display and support for Y-OCTA technology and possibly XDR.

Another innovation is the narrowed side frames. Watching videos or playing games will be much more comfortable. The top frame will also become much more compact.
The refresh rate of the new displays is 120 Hz, and it is also possible to change the parameters manually in the settings. For example, to view content or work in standard mode, it will be enough to set 60 Hz and the maximum - 120 Hz for games.

Camera

When developing a new series, it was not without improving the technical characteristics of the camera. The Pro Max 12 series will feature a 3-camera system (64MP ultra-wide and dual 12MP cameras) enhanced with a LIDAR sensor.Plus a lens with a 3x zoom (against 2x for the 11 series), which will improve macro shooting capabilities (from a distance of up to 2.2 m, the viewing angle will remain the same - 120 degrees).

Improvements to the Smart HDR feature are also possible. Now it will be much easier to take high-quality and clear pictures even in poor lighting conditions.

Well, the most important feature is the built-in 3 D-camera LIDAR, which will be appreciated by those who like to take pictures. This is a higher quality of portrait shots (separation of the object from the background, depth, sharpness) and the ability to use the gadget in the so-called augmented reality. Users will be able to scan moving objects and use them in special applications.

According to rumors, the smartphone will be compatible with new smart glasses, which are also scheduled to launch in 2020.

As for shooting video: the same 4K at 60 frames per second, extended dynamic range and stabilization (the functions of the latter are planned to be improved). Plus audio zoom to synchronize sound with the video track. The only significant difference is the new stabilization technology with a moving camera sensor. This means that you can control (stabilize) the image on all 3 cameras - it is quite suitable even for filming an amateur film, not to mention short videos for social networks.

Processor and performance

The new smartphones will use a 5-nm A14 Bionic processor - faster than its predecessors (preliminary test results that have leaked into the network indicate this), which means that there should be no problems loading websites or watching videos. The same goes for games - fast response to commands, clear graphics even for demanding "toys" that require quick response.

Judging by the test results, the new processor can be used not only on smartphones, but also on more serious devices, such as Mac book.

Battery and memory

It is possible that the battery capacity on new devices will be increased, again by analogy with the 11 series (on average, the batteries "lived" 5-6 hours longer than on previous versions of smartphones).

But don't expect anything big. The new iPhones will support the fifth generation network, which cannot but affect the battery life. On average, the phone will last about 20-22 hours with active use.

Fast and wireless charging - the choice of the user. In the future, it is planned to release smartphones that support only wireless technologies.

The amount of RAM is 6 GB, the built-in memory is 128 GB.

Connection

In 2020, Apple will return to Qualcomm modem chips (the company previously used equipment from Intel) that will support 5G technology. For the sake of this, the long-standing litigation between the two giants was even forgotten - the differences were settled in April last year.

Ming-Chi Kuo said that fifth-generation network support technology will be used in all gadgets from 2020. The news is not the most interesting, at least for Russia. Users will not be able to appreciate the benefits of 5G before 2022.

Perhaps new smartphones will support the new Wi-Fi standard (IEEE 802.11ay), which increases the throughput (connection speed) by 4 times.

Additional features

In addition to standard sensors and location systems (GPS, GLONASS), it is possible to use new ultrasonic technologies for the fingerprint scanner and Qualcomm face ID.

There is no exact information about this. Some sources claim that a smartphone with updated scanners will be available as early as 2020, according to others - only in 2022.

Release date and price

Tentatively - the beginning of October, but again, the dates may be postponed due to a more complex design. Therefore, smartphones of the new line will be available for pre-order no earlier than in November of this year.
As for the presentation, according to rumors, Apple plans to introduce a new product in the second half of September.

The preliminary cost of the new premium smartphone 12 Pro Max with a diagonal of 6.7 inches will be $1099. More accurate pricing information will appear closer to September, after the official presentation. It is to be hoped that by this time the exchange rate of the ruble will not change significantly.

Of the minuses - the headphones in the package, most likely, will not be. According to experts, this is a marketing ploy aimed at increasing consumer demand for AirPods. Of the benefits - possible discounts on headphones when buying a new smartphone.
