Design

LG officially unveiled the new tablet in October 2019. Featuring a Candybar design, it will only be available in silver. In terms of durability, the tablet will last for years, as it is made of durable metal. The weight of 498 grams allows you to comfortably hold the gadget in your hands. On the front side, at the top of the screen, there is a 5 MP selfie camera. On the right side, on the side panel, there are 3 buttons: power, sound and biometric authentication (fingerprint scanner). At the bottom of the device is a port for fast charging. Above is the headphone jack.

Sound

The dual speaker sits on either side of the USB Type-C port, located on the bottom of the tablet. The volume of 2 speakers is enough to play video and music. The sound quality is good, no complaints.

Display

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 FHD LTE comes with a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It uses IPS display technology. The pixel density of the screen is 224 ppi. The display-to-body ratio is 79.66%, which is an aspect ratio of 1.6:1. You can enjoy bright and clear images with a wide viewing angle of 178º. Thanks to the IPS panel, the screen contrast is good, and at different angles it will not lose image quality, but, unfortunately, the reflection of light in the sun is very poor. Multitouch is very sensitive. You can touch the display with gloves, wet fingers, and the screen will still respond well.

Fine-tuning the display, and choosing a black and white mode will provide comfort to the eyes and, preventing fatigue, will be very relevant when reading e-books or browsing the web.

Camera

The camera used in the G Pad is a little weak. The tablet is equipped with one rear sensor for photography and video recording. 8 megapixel with a resolution of 2160 pixels is equipped with autofocus, is able to detect faces, as well as record videos in HD. Also responsible for capturing original images on the GD 5. 5 megapixel front camera for video calls and selfies, can record video at 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps. Focusing is good, photo quality is average, and noise levels are relatively high in low-light conditions. The colors are accurate, but the contrast is poorly defined. Image sharpness is present, but in low light conditions the quality leaves much to be desired.

Hardware and software

The tablet comes with an Optimus 3.0 interface and Android 9 OS. As for the internals, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 MSM8996 Pro processor, which is accompanied by a Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU. This hardware was last used on an LG G6 smartphone in February 2017. This is a rather strange chipset choice given its age. The manufacturer did not install the current model, but the year before last, the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Interestingly, the brand decided to use a three-year-old chipset in combination with 4 GB of RAM. The gadget comes with 32 GB of internal memory. However, users can increase this capacity via the microSD port up to 512 GB.G Pad with WUXGA extended graphics or Ultra screen Ultra Extended Array is capable of delivering better picture quality than conventional Full HD display. The 1.2GHz quad-core processor is quite nimble, expanding the high performance viewing experience, and users will end up enjoying full HD content seamlessly.

Price

How much does the device cost? Representatives of the company said that the device will soon be available for purchase in South Korea in November 2019 at an average price of about € 340. Where is it profitable to buy a reliable performance device? It will be possible to buy the gadget on the Internet on the AliExpress platform. It remains to be seen if the LG G Pad 5 10.1 will release in the United States.

Applications

The tablet comes with a set of software applications that are used by the manufacturer of this product. LG's proprietary software (eg Quickmemo, QSlide, Quick Remote, Pair) and keyboard shortcuts are still user-friendly.

QuickRemote is an incredibly useful app that turns your tablet into a programmable remote control and lets you control your TV, cable TV, DVD or Blue Ray player, projector and more. QuickRemote supports devices from most manufacturers and setup is quick and easy.

QPair 2.0 function - quick synchronization of LG G Pad tablet with smartphone. The program that the device is equipped with will also allow you to track calls and messages received on your phone. Quickmemo allows you to quickly and easily draw or write short notes on the screen without using other programs.

Reviews

Unfortunately, there are no reviews for this model yet.On the Internet, users are actively interested in why the manufacturer, after a 2-year break, released a tablet with a three-year-old chipset and loaded Android 9 into it, when version 10 of the firmware has already been available for a long time. Will the G Pad 5 10.1 top the list of quality gadgets, with a large display, fast battery charging and a fingerprint scanner? It will be possible to find out in a couple of months, after the first tablets are sold.

Conclusion

How to choose a good device that will last a single year? Which brand of model is better? You should pay attention to the technical characteristics of the gadget. The choice of design, color of the device depends only on taste preferences. All in all, it has to be admitted that LG's interface has come a long way in recent times and the company is hard at work adding functionality to the look. Depending on the functionality expected from the tablet, you should pay special attention to the chipset. The selection criteria depend on the purpose of the purchase: for games, watching videos, communicating on the Internet, or for work. For a gamer, “weak hardware” will not bring much pleasure when games freeze.

The disadvantages of the G Pad 5 10.1 are poor display performance when opening heavier applications or downloading multiple files at the same time. Who is this model ideal for? It is suitable for watching cartoons and not very active games. A rather powerful novelty, which will be sold at a price of $380, holds a battery charge for a long time, will be the most suitable option for those who want to purchase a budget device with good performance, but do not plan active games on the device.
