Design

The design is the most interesting and eye-catching part of the Oppo Find X smartphone. The phone's display takes up as much as 94% of the total front panel area. The developers have achieved this effect by hiding the main details under the body of the smartphone. The front camera, flash, infrared scanner, earpiece - all this extends when the camera or infrared scanner is activated.

Such a decision, perhaps, can be called progressive.Since in order to increase the diagonal of the display, an increase in the device itself is not required. True, the durability of this method of hiding can only be known by the end of 2018.

The bezel design features one solid display and a neatly integrated earpiece. No mechanical or navigational buttons.

The back of the smartphone is designed non-standard - the photo module is centered, and also fully extends or slides out of the body. If you do not push the cameras, then the only thing on the back panel is the company logo and overflows on the sides.

At the bottom there is a multimedia speaker and USB Type-C.

The smartphone itself can be painted in two colors - blue and red.

Reliability and practicality

The main problem of Oppo Find X is reliability. Yes, the smartphone has a very attractive design and high functionality, but at the expense of practicality and reliability. Due to the fact that the camera is constantly extended and retracted, the smartphone acquires several problems at once.

  • The first problem is covers and protective bumpers. At the moment, most companies produce special cases for their gadgets. But for the Oppo Find X, this is a big problem. If you put on a regular case, then the main feature of this smartphone disappears, and if you don’t put it on, the smartphone becomes completely impractical.
  • The second problem is retractable cameras. This feature gives additional protection to the cameras, which is a plus. However, the catch is durability. Oppo has provided a 5-year warranty for its smartphone, but it is quite difficult to prove the absence of fault in the breakdown.

Filling

Oppo Find X is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The first cluster of cores runs at 2.8 GHz, and the second at 1.7 GHz.The processor has a very high level of performance, and is also a direct competitor to Kirin. It pulls absolutely all the novelties of the gaming industry in 2018, giving out stable 55-60 FPS in almost all games. The phone also has a built-in Adreno 630 graphics accelerator. The video chip, like the processor, can be attributed to the “stuffing” that most flagships have. So the performance of the Oppo Find X cannot be blamed.

Autonomy is standard, the phone is able to work for a day with active use or 2 days in a not particularly loaded mode. The battery has a capacity of 3730 mAh. The smartphone also supports Oppo VOOC fast charging technology and is able to reach a full battery charge in 35 minutes.

The smartphone has 256 gigabytes of RAM, but there is a version in which only 128 GB is installed. This is a very important point, since the gadget does not support cards to expand the internal memory. The phone also has a standard, "flagship" amount of RAM - 8 gigabytes, which allows you not to lose performance during prolonged use.

The phone has only 1 speaker, which is strange. After all, if the phone bears the title of "flagship", then it must have stereo sound. The very reproduction of sound through the speakers is clear and without any noise that is inherent in most "Chinese phones". The sound is recorded in all popular formats, so there should be no problems with further editing.

Screen

Oppo Find X is currently equipped with the most bezel-less screen. The display has a Super AMOLED matrix and Full HD + resolution (2340x1080 pixels). In the sun, the screen displays a juicy picture and does not glare.The high resolution and large diagonal are ideal for everything from watching videos to reading books and surfing the Internet. The entire screen is completely covered with Gorilla Glass 6 protective glass and also has an oleophobic coating. Due to "artificial intelligence", the display does not respond to accidental touches, such as those that usually happen when you hold a smartphone with two hands. The display itself occupies 94% of the entire front part, thereby confirming the title of the most frameless smartphone.

Camera Overview

The phone has a standard set of cameras - 1 front and dual main. Now everything is in order. The main camera has 16 MP and f/2.0 aperture, while the secondary camera has 20 MP and f/2.2 aperture. The front camera received 20 megapixels (f / 2.2) and optical stabilization like the main photo module. Initially, all cameras are hidden under the body of the smartphone, and in case you need to take a photo, they move out in 0.5 seconds.

Here is an example of a photo taken with the main camera:

And here's how it "takes pictures" in bright light:

An example of taking pictures at night:

It immediately becomes noticeable that the cameras artificially increase the brightness if the scene is dimly lit. But if we consider cases in which the camera takes pictures in good light, then the pictures are quite sharp, even if you zoom in on the picture. This is not to say that the cameras on the Oppo Find X take the lead among popular flagships, however, they are clearly ahead of most of the best mid-range manufacturers.

Features of functionality and software

The phone has a proprietary Color OC 5 shell. Someone criticizes it because of the inconvenience to use, while someone, on the contrary, praises it.In order to finally resolve this issue, it is worth a little more detailed study of the features of Oppo Find X, in particular its launcher.

Color OC 5 is based on the Samsung Experience shell, but the interface still looks like IOS. This is not to say that it is terrible and unusable, but it has some flaws. For example, when notifications arrive, they cannot be removed in the “curtain” with just one movement, you have to confirm the removal of the notification each time. Or another problem that was adopted from IOS - limitation. The smartphone cannot be set to auto-launch for more than 5 applications. This limitation is not entirely clear, because the phone has a top-end Snapdragon 845, which is able to withstand such a load without any problems.

But despite the above problems, the phone has a large number of useful features. For example, Always on Display. This function displays basic information on the smartphone display even when the smartphone is in sleep mode. Another useful feature is automatic face recognition. At the moment when you need to unlock the smartphone screen, the O-Face function is activated. The unlock itself is pretty fast, but don't forget about the camera popping out, which takes 0.5 seconds. The camera is able to recognize a face in complete darkness and from any angle, which is a plus.

The system has its shortcomings due to the early release of the model. But the developers quickly “fix” most of the bugs. So for the stable operation of the system, a small number of updates will be required.

How much and is it worth it?

The average price at the start of sales is $ 1,000 or 67,000 rubles. In Kazakhstan, Oppo Find X can be purchased at a price of 360,000 tenge.Such a price, even taking into account all the technical characteristics and features, is unlikely to be called “justified”. At least for the reason that in one year most models will receive the same stuffing and functionality as the Oppo Find X, and the price, at the same time, will not exceed $ 500.

Oppo Find X

The situation with Oppo can be compared with the situation with Apple, whose popularity of models is based solely on the cult. Yes, smartphones have their own features and good performance. However, overpaying for something that is essentially a “wrapper” does not make much sense. There are many models on the market that have similar parameters and functionality, while the buyer pays for the characteristics, and not for the brand.

Results

The Oppo Find X is a smartphone that clearly stands out from its peers. It has a beautiful minimalist design with high functionality that will please most users. The technical "stuffing" is ideal for active games and shows stable performance under any load. Yes, someone may not like such a bold decision in design and functionality. However, Oppo began to pay special attention to innovative solutions and move in a new direction for itself. Here is a short list of the pros and cons of the Oppo Find X smartphone:

Advantages:
  1. The display, which occupies 94% of the total area of the front of the smartphone.
  2. High technical characteristics;
  3. Convenient and modern design;
Flaws:
  1. Lack of NFC-interface (Contactless payments using a smartphone).
  2. Lack of moisture protection;
  3. Inability to put a case on a smartphone (due to retractable cameras).
  4. Unfinished O-Face shell;
  5. Lack of a standard 3.5 headphone or headset jack;
  6. Unjustified price;

Answers to basic questions

How to choose a smartphone?

Choosing a smartphone is a very responsible and sometimes very difficult process. After all, you need to choose exactly the smartphone that will satisfy most of the needs. Here are the selection criteria to consider when choosing a new gadget:

  1. Specifications;
  2. Mandatory presence of Full HD screen;
  3. Support for the latest versions of the Android operating system.

Where is it profitable to buy?

There are 3 ways to buy a smartphone.

The first is online shopping. This method is characterized by a slightly underestimated cost of the goods. But the low cost, relative to the average, is offset by a large number of problems. You never know in what condition the purchase will arrive and whether it will arrive at all.

The second way is to buy at a local hardware store. The most common option, which hardly requires any explanation. The advantage of this method is the ability to ask a sales consultant about the product, but it is worth remembering that the only goal pursued by the seller is to sell. Therefore, you should first familiarize yourself with the characteristics and read reviews about the purchased product.

The third way is to buy a used smartphone. Here, too, there are both minuses and pluses. The main disadvantage is unreliability and lack of warranty. The main plus is the cost, which is often cut by 40-50% of the original cost.

Which brand of smartphone is better to buy?

Unfortunately, there is no exact answer to this question. There are manufacturers who clearly overestimate the price for their product, while being on the same level in terms of functionality and characteristics.There are also companies that produce inexpensive smartphones, while managing to copy most of the “chips” of expensive flagships. But there are also bona fide companies that produce high-quality smartphones. Here is a short list of such firms:

  • Huawei;
  • meizu;
  • Xiaomi;
  • Honour.
